Crypt of the NecroDancer

Crypt of the NecroDancer

Game does not actually have full controller support?
I'm trying to play Crypt of the NecroDancer on an HTPC with no mouse or keyboard plugged into it. My wired Xbox One controller is detected by the game, but the only button that functions when I play is the Start button, which brings up the menu, from which I cannot escape because no other buttons are recognized. I assume this is because the game believes I am controlling player 2, and if I had some way to get into the key binding screen everything would work fine.

For a game to be considered "Full Controller Support", isn't it supposed to be possible to play it without ever needing to use a mouse or keyboard? It seems like this game assumes the controller will be player 2 and there's no way to override this without plugging in some other kind of input device first.

Definitely doesn't have Full Controller Support as advertised. I fixed it by getting a refund and playing a different game.

The game won't auto-detect how you want your controller set-up. You do need to set it up initially using a keyboard. You do not need a keyboard or mouse to play the game and after you do the initial setup, all menus, gameplay, etc. work with the controller, so it's definitely still full support.

When I had the game back in June, I did set it up in the configuration screen. But there are still problems with the gamepad, for example, with navigating menus, at least on Linux. Unless you fixed that since then.

It was mentioned by several other people. For example, here's one: http://steamcommunity.com/app/247080/discussions/2/598198356168404303/#c598198356178591444

Uh, okay, that's great and all, but here is the verbatim quote regarding what "Full Controller Support" means from https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5006-ASLN-3202:

"Titles marked with “Full Controller Support” indicate that they can be downloaded, launched and played using only a controller. These titles do not require a mouse or keyboard on hand for any configuration or in-game setup."

So, CotND doesn't have Full controller support. Can we please get this patched to at least allow controllers to navigate the menu? There's no reason that that shouldn't work fine, even if your gameplay controls are configured differently.

I have a Steam Controller as well as a Xbox 360 Controller (wired) both attached.
Steam Controller worked out of the box, but the Xbox Controller was not found nor was it possible to configure the second player to use the controller. I had to change to WASD for player two since the Steam Controller sends keyboard commands so Arrow-keys were taken.

I just tried again, it's not possible to bind controller keys to player one or two

MaXMC, you couldn't bind the Xbox controller to player two?
Maltavius Nov 6, 2015 @ 6:57am
Nope, just tried it again.

Options->Reasign Controllers->Press Enter on UP.
It starts blinking.
I press every button on my Xbox controller that is connected (and usable in MGSV and Castle Crashers for example).
Nothing happens.
I resort to pressing W and it registrers

I'm very disappointed about the devs lying about this. Couldn't even get past the audio/video sync screen because it wants me to press enter. HTPC on ubuntu 15.04 with a wireless xbox 360 controller.

I still can't play the game with an Xbox 360 Controller (wired) and the Steam Controller. I can play with keyboard and Steam-controller though...

So the game should definitely autorecognize an xbox controller and just work. You might have other controllers plugged in that are causing the game to think that their controller is player 2 or something. Do you have other USB controllers plugged in?

In the case of Linux any other USB item might be interfering.

I have 1 Xbox 360 controller that works in MGSV, Castle Crashers etc. as controller 1
I also have a Steam Controller connected but that doesn't show up as a Controller in the Control Panel.

I can't even force the game to recognize it. I'll try with only the Xbox 360 controller connected when I get home.

I have the same problem, one 360 controller connected - this game does not have full controller support!
Adriel Nov 19, 2015 @ 2:01pm
The game definitely has full controller support. Please try this: Manually delete all of the game's files from the SteamApps folder. Then click uninstall from within Steam to make sure it recognizes that the game is gone, reinstall it, restart both Steam, and your machine.

Maltavius Nov 19, 2015 @ 11:35pm
Thansks @Heather, that actually worked (but I didn't restart Steam or my machine).
But the default bindings are to XABY and not D-pad as people would expect.

Now I need to retry playing with both the 360-controller and Steam controller.

I had a fresh install, with the controller active on the first launch of the game - ... but I'll try your fix anyway sometimes - thank you :)
