I loathe King Conga
The boss is fine, but the whole "stop every 8th beat" thing is not only completely fiddly but practicing it throws off the rest of my game. I practiced against him for about 15 minutes and was suddenly missing 8 beats against other bosses I was practicing against.

Maybe it's because I'm used to counting beats in threes or fours, but the unevenness of the pauses constantly throws me off (if it were every fourth beat rather than every eighth I feel it would be a lot easier), especially as I'm having to think about where I'm moving so have to try and count and think at the same time.

Expect it gets easier once you've a firm stategy for the boss (I've barely encountered him until now so haven't really figured him out) so don't have as much to think about, but the whole thing does seem like it's designed to trip people up.

Thing is I'm also doing Aria next and I just know if don't sort the guy out he's going to pop up and wreck my runs as well. Gah!

I'd recommend counting the beats when fighting him, since you know it's every 8th beat. It can be any method that makes it easier for you; for me it's counting (sometimes out loud) like so: 'one, two, one, two, one, two, one'. It's the only part of the game where I have to count beats, so I know the pain. :necroshovel:

I think he's the toughest standard boss partly because of the break in the beat but also because of the sheer amount of enemies which come with him.

Saying that, I love his soundtrack, such a well done fitting song for the fight.

My only real strat for the fight which reliably works is when you hear King Konga make his monkey sounds and starts coming towards you, just keep strafing left and/or right till he's in range to hit. While he's sitting on his throne focus on killing standard enemies.

I just listen to the music. I've never bothered to count out the rhythm. Maybe try a more organic approach?

everyone probably already knows this, but since I have a reputation of being a Captain Obvious, here goes...

I just realized that beat that you stop on...is just like the Conga song, except the real Conga song stops on the 6th beat.

if you count in 4's you can do "1,2,3,4,1,2,3,stop"
but I don't even count it, I listen to the music and I can tell when it expects you me stop, also those bars down at the bottom where the heart is, indicate when you need to stop..(athough, those bars are initially what kept confusing me)

I also noticed that the gorilla only comes off the throne and charges at you if you miss a beat.I guess he gets pissed off because you aren't following the rules...

and then you can only hurt the gorilla after you kill the conga line zombies. The other enemies don't have to be killed, just the zombies.

its better if you count just in case you lose focus for a second

I also found out that you can rush up and bomb the throne he sits on and then he comes for you and you can kill him without having to kill the conga zombies

also another thing is that when the level begins, if you stay put and don't do anything then the game will wait for you and time won't advance, you don't lose your combo, even as aria, you don't die. so you can take a break and wait and refocus yourself and then start moving when you are ready.
I did not realize that at first and I usually start moving as soon as I enter the level and the music has already started going so I'm actually beginning on the 3rd or 4th beat and then3 beats later, is the beat I have to stop, and I miss it.
