Any tips for Bolt?
I've never had any problems with beat as any other character, but Bolt is pretty impossible for me.

Are there any tips for gitting gud?

When you're first playing as bolt, don't expect to keep the beat. In fact, allow yourself to lose it, and only move every other beat, unless you're actually attacking an enemy. Once you've gotten attacking enemies down (always keep a titanium/blood 2+ range weapon), start practising by running leeroy jenkins style into a room, and learning how to recover. Although you may be able to take them on individually, or even a couple at a time, being able to work out an escape route in the short time you have, and executing it, is far harder as Bolt.

Lastly, don't feel down if you, for example, got through floor three before, but can't do even floor two the next day. It takes your mind some warming up in order to cope with the speed of the game, and once you redo and get through the first floor, you'll find you're far better at the later ones.

If you haven’t, do multiple calibration tests with bolt until you are finally satisfied with the setting, it’ll make the character 25% easier. I don’t know any other good tips but I remember practicing the dragon dance to start off because it helps not getting killed by dragons and it also helps you develop the sense of how you should move with a 2+ range weapon. Keep in mind that you don’t have to master the double tempo to beat Bolt. (I think) Almost everyone’s first bolt completion is from cheesing it.

Mine wasn't. I doubt I kept the beat on any level, but I tried to. The problem with cheesing it is that there's certain enemies it flat-out won't work on, including knight skeletons, all goblins, beetles, and all of floor 4. Plus, if you run into a room with a larger than average number of enemies, or multiple monkeys/spirits/knights you will very quickly get overwhelmed.

Thanks, guys. I'll try playing as her now

Btw, should I disable my sounds and screen shake?

Haven't beaten Bolt yet, but I found her easier to play with the Danganropa soundtrack than with other soundtracks. I think it's because the songs are so different I can separate my rote pacing from the other characters.

Definitely get rid of screen shake as well as disco floor unless you want to burn your eyes out or you can stand the raving visuals.

I'm still trying to avoid as much beat skips as possible but beyond Zone 3, 2nd and 3rd levels are just way too fast for my senses lol. I'm not sure if I can ever beat Coda, given I unlock him/her.

But yeah, you can try it with a lot of beat skips. Setting up custom hotkeys can also help, which makes using the Crossbow (or any weapon that needs reloading) a bit easier.

Here are my hotkeys (if you want some ideas)
Throw dagger/reload: R
Spells: 1 (upper slot) and 2 (lower slot)
Plant bomb: Z
Use item: Q (upper slot), E (lower slot)

It takes some time getting used to it but it makes things easier rather than using double keys which may take a few more milliseconds to press and more effort from the brain.

Well, I've set up my hotkeys before playing this game. It's the swing beats that kill me all the time :c

Yeah, turning off screen shake is a must. I keep disco floor on theough, it helps me with judging distances and dealing with enemies on a 2-beat cycle.

On the subject of settings, I also turn off the heart on the beat bar, as the beat is when the lines meet in the middle, which can be hard to judge with the heart in the way. Keeping boss intros on is good too, as it causes the speedrun timer not to count down if you need a break before a boss.

I assume you use WASD? Personally, I use the arrow keys. I've not needed hotkeys that much - although that might change when I attempt Coda - but I have got up+down set to left shift, and left+right set to left ctrl.

Yessir. I use WASD. I prefer it over the arrow keys.

Another tip: try changing the soundtrack which you use for Bolt. I found that upon changing to Virt, I won for the first time within three tries. xD

I also find Chipzel and Overclocked suitable. Find the mix that will make you comfy with the double beats. ;)

I should create a poll on this. I'll do that.
