I call him CANCELLED Mike Z for a reason. He got CANCELLED and was unable to find work proper due to the actions of his former employees. Mariel Cartwright being the primary person who spearheaded said cancellation. And when you get CANCELLED, you only have one recourse and that's to sue the people responsible which he did.
Not going to get into all the details but as someone who's been here almost at the beginning, CANCELLED Mike Z was part of the initial censorship WAAAY back in the indiegogo days. Even bragged about it.
On that note, it is also satisfying seeing the people he willingly aligned with eat him alive. You greenhorns have YEARS of lore to catch up on.
Correction, he is currently working with the Diesel Legacy developers.
Correction, in the lawsuit Zaimont descrives having lost at least A job because of that (Applying roll back netcode to one of the earlier guilty gear games), I don't remember if there were more specified.
Also some former employees are really not cool about him being able to get a job still so probably making him unemployable was part of the plan: https://www.pcgamer.com/3-years-after-he-faced-sexual-harassment-allegations-new-fighting-game-diesel-legacy-is-giving-disgraced-skullgirls-developer-mike-zaimont-a-chance-to-prove-hes-now-fundamentally-different/
You didn't miss anything: it's just hateful people, a number of them women, tearing down multiple men in a company to take the IP for themselves and 'improve it with their vision'.
As usual, hateful people who want control like this get very angry when their attempts to control others and step on their heads to move upwards don't fail and find success elsewhere.
Kind of reminds me of a company that were taken over by "whamen" who falsely accused the old CEO of rape and silencing them with hush money. They did it for power gains and now look at the direction the company is going... What a "Dog-Eat-Dog" world we live in.

He was only able to find work now due to the lawsuit where he was able to show all the evidence of how his former employees, specifically Mariel Cartwright were lying. When you get cancelled, you sue. Discovery showing all those deleted Slack messages full of sexual depravity and lame conspiracy was a great deal of fun.
But hey, like I said, CANCELLED Mike Z was all for the initial censorship. He did this to himself. Watching him get thrown under the bus by Sonicfox will never not be funny to me.
Correction, he was hired because he demonstrated a willingness to improve his behavior according to CEO Christina Seelye. His hiring had nothing to do with his cross complaint. Quote:
"That said, when I was talking to Mike and went through the process of figuring out where he was at—if you want to have an inclusive environment in the world, and you want to have diverse viewpoints, all of the things we want for DEI, you have to have a path for people to learn and improve. You have to create a way for them to show the world that they've changed and decided to do better. And I really got that from Mike. I got that he was committed to it and that he didn't want everything that went down to be the end of his story. He wanted the opportunity to have the redemptive arc that's in so many stories that we all love."

Ironically, the very DEI that some people on this board rally against may have "uncancelled" him.
One of the things I love about this article is Seelye's approach to all this. She is willing to give Mike another chance, even after he's been vilified (and some people still want to vilify him).
And, to be honest, I hope that Mike's learned his lesson. There are some things that you just don't say, and some conversations you just don't have, with your coworkers or employees. This goes especially for those that become public figures.
The public loves to see success stories. The media loves to see success stories fail. If they have the chance to tear down someone, they'll lead with it. Even if it means dragging up an out-of-context quotation from 35 years ago, they'll do it. If they're wrong? Meh, just publish a retraction three days later on page seven. I've seen them do it, so I know it happens.
I want to see Mike Z happy and successful in whatever endeavor he sets out to do. It may not have anything to do with SkullGirls. It probably shouldn't have him in charge of anything. Whatever path he chooses to take in life, I hope he makes wise decisions and "follows his bliss," to paraphrase Joseph Campbell.
I remember thinking when that PC Gamer article dropped that I would have been more interested in reading up on the people he hurt and learning how they were faring in the industry lately, but sadly those kind of articles attract fewer clicks then "big name" stories.
