Maybe that isn't clear enough for him...

Basically, It is not a finished product. So they need some funding so they can make the best game possible, and If it was free at this moment, a lot of people would be disappointed in the game because it is at a VERY early stage. (Even though I love the game, even at this state)
The issue is that we started with a team of three developers, where only one was a programmer. This meant that in order to launch free to play from the start, we'd have to put full focus on micro-transactions instead of gameplay.
This is why we decided to launch the game on Early Access for a smaller fee in order to continue expanding and improving gameplay with the help of our community.
If you don't have cash at the moment or don't want to pay for Alpha, then wait for official release. Otherwise, please GTFO.

You are paying for early access to the game with the addition of multiple items only for backers when the game goes free - plus you can also help the development of this game.
No-one thinks anyone is stupid- it's your choice whether to buy it or not. No-one is expecting anyone to pay for something they don't want to have or back.
