Legitimate reasons to go to other planets...
Am making a custom system but while adding other planets i keep wondering 'why?'... Why would i travel so far?

So far we have traders on other planets and i guess the contracts occasionally get you to go to another planet... and there are the mythical monoliths to try and find... But that seems to be about it which isn't a massive pull...

So... anyone know of any mods or anything that would give good reasons to actually touch down?
Rewards, or info, or maybe even parts of a story or something...
Personally i'd love to have to take some kina samples to use in the science station that actually works and does something but none of that exists so am just going to continue trying to make money for now

i'd try getting things like encounter mods. i think there's a bunker one that spawns drones to come and attack players..

Oh always try and have as many emeny mods as can work... Lets be honest, it can get very boring without them as there isnt really much in a vanilla game...

There is a mod that spawns a hugh base that has overpowered 'reward' blocks but as i understand it it only spawns on a couple of the vanilla planets...

If i could ask someone to make a mod/or even keen to add it into the game... Placeable figues like decorations that cant be spawned in manually and have to find or defeat enemys to collect them all... or something like that anyway

so - if you've played any of Sarekh's exploration mods like:

he has text screens and data pads on ships and stations and bases that tell stories which include GPS markers to find the next bit of plot - and they always lead you to an awesome ship or station or base, or some pirates, or the scene of an epic battle etc - so that is a pretty nice reward for exploration and a pretty good way to do it

or you could make it so an important mineral can only be found on a specific planet (say maybe you can't make jump drives until you've visited the moon, and maybe have mars have some important component needed to survive on the alien planet or something like that)

or you could have the player infected with some kind of bio-agent that can only be cured by finding the martian research base where it was created - and give the player a time limit, say they lose 1 point of maximum health every 15 minutes or something, so they have to find it in 25 hours

and maybe the research base has some awesome ship as reward (and the base) - but then you find out that on the alien planet they found some alien artifact and it started a chain reaction that will destroy the system unless you get there and find some Magical McGuffin that'll fix it

and add some badass drones into the mix

just some possible suggestions :-)

If you use mods try 'Progressive Resources'. It spreads the ores out over the several planets for you.

Don't know abut You, but I encounter Alien Factions and bases on all the planets.

I always use the scarce resources mod in my plays. Atleast it gives me a reason to go to other planets and setup bases. Only basic stuff on the earth-planet, uranium on the alien planet, platinum on mars, gold & silver also on other planets etc (so with earth start closests is the moon)

I guess there really isn't a reason to go to every or other planets other than I *think* some planets have specific ore on them that others don't have, so we need to go to them to get that type of ore. I'm probably wrong there but it is fact that ore such as uranium and platinum is rare and only found on asteroids or moons so we do have to venture to them.

My current run i haven't been mining just salvaging and still got endless almost everything...
Except ice, which i need to get off world...

But as i'm not mining anything else then the ores have really no appeal this run through

i'm interested to try Alb's jetpack nerf and balanced helicopter parts - is always interesting to go to a workshop you wouldn't normally see - i only tend to see currently active popular modders (since they show up in the most popular recent mods) or those with mods that have been popular over the various time periods we can search by (first 5 or 10 pages of most popular for a given time period with or without a search term or category), or those i already know from other mods

so that's nice :-)

and also yes the idea for those reward block is very cool :-)

Those mods are a great idea but only spawn on the alien and titan planets. just need some more like this

i have to admit to having 1600+ hours in the game and i'm still nowhere near running out of things to do - but - i have this mod on my list to try when i do (or just when i find myself in the mood):

Alternatively, you could go the opposite way and discourage players from staying in one place for too long with NPC missiles full of warheads or raid fleets with overpowered weapons they slowly fly to the clostest player/player owned grid on the server. Maybe have it delete all unpowered grids within a radius of the fleet so it also acts as a sort of auto cleaner as well
