No random pirate attacks?
I thought there was a random chance for pirates to attack me, but since I destroyed their nearby outpost no drones have come for me. I'm on earth, there's a headquarter about 30 km away from me, no attacks for hours upon hours now. Do they only attack when you get too close to them?

Yes, they start to send out drones when you get near enough. And won't stop until they are destroyed, or their antenna anyway. Just seeing a marker doesn't immediately mean they have seen you, or do something with you. At most you could say they are luring you out.

With standard settings (no mods) there will only be drones coming from the outpost and the headquarters. You destroyed the outpost so there will be no drones coming from there any more. The headquarters is 30km away and drones will start being generated there when you get within about 5 (?) km from it. Random pirate ships get made but you have to be in space first.

If you need, I can instruct you on making something to redo the outpost enough to drones to spawn again.

Hi, those SPRT Stations spawn enemy Drones from their antenna so we just have to destroy the antenna to stop drone spawning.

+
Only the custom worlds where we start at a default Faction station have enemy stations to conquer on all Planets and Moons, the other worlds have enemy in space only.

Info +

It's very easy to create enemy Drone Spawners and paste here and there to add more or use Workshop Mods.

SPRT Antenna names :"Play with enemy Drones"

EDIT
I made different Drone Spawners that I blueprinted and paste at the Rich ore spots of the game to make it more challenging :

EDIT 2
Must enable the God modes in Alt+F10 to paste SPRT stations in Spectator mode F8 and disable the God modes when done.

I will add :

Try "Escort Contract" at the Trade stations, that one is hard and need a specific Warship setup to win more than one Battle without any damages done to your Warship and the one you escort.

I'm new to the game and I've done several starting options. In my experience, the earth-like EarthEasyStation start is pretty misleading. You spawn into the station at a message board with the #1 priority listed being "Protect the Base". So I worked to improve base defenses, and nothing came to defend against.
If they aren't going to attack, then the #1 priority could be rewritten to "Eliminate nearby Pirate enclaves".

It's been a long time since I played any of the "Easy Start" vanilla scenarios, but drones used to attack. Probably a glitch in the matrix.

May be a new bug that needs to be reported, happens all the time after a game update where we have to report the new bugs to have the hotfix ASAP.
-> The report links are in the pinned green messages.

I'll say, create a new world without any Mods so all on default settings but make sure all NPCs are enabled from the world advanced settings and report on the Support Portal if still no enemy Drones.

Kind of yes and no. Outpost base is 4.8km with an drone spawning antenna with a range of 4km. In general if you always stay at Easy Start base, there won't be any drones. Take a few steps toward the outpost and is close enough to spawn a drone.

Been doing "crashed red ship" scenario and got a bit lost in figuring out and building ships when firt I heard clanging which some hinted at loose components banging about. I did a quick inner ship check, repaired a few things and it stopped so I went back the the covered hanger I made to create small grid ships. then I saw these sparks and wondered 'what's this about?" then saw a piece of hanger plating break off and float inwards. Happens that there were 2 Space Pirate gunboats pummeling the red ship wreck especially a utility pod that I had on an external connector. Having no defense weapons built and thinking the rifle would just aggravate them I went in the ship looking for a nook, the red ship bridge was breached as the gunships continued their barrage. Out of site, the Space Pirate gunships pulled back but now I have one gunship 800m away on a local asteroid (probably mining ice I saw there). The pod on the connector was all but demolished.

I'll run a new save when I get the chance, but I'm not using mods with SE. I can get drones to spawn, but only if I'm between 3-4km from the antenna, so I've seen no activity at the player base.

I loved those things. Some time ago I blended an Argentavis and Raiding Station into a ship called a Raiding Argentavis; it looks like a pregnant guppy. Fun stuff.

I had two of those suckers spawn when playing for the Scrap Delivery achievement in the Never Surrender scenario. Both just missed plowing into my guardian ship.

Yes. They'll start attacking if we instigate attacks by attacking them. If we leave them alone they (generally) leave us alone. If you want more combat situations in your game consider running the MES framework and addons linked in the description.

That's not quite correct. Vanilla drone spawning antennas trigger based on a player's distance from the antenna. Some antennas will trigger drone spawning when the player is 20 km distant. Things may have changed, but this summary I put together should give you an idea about drone behavior based on the various SPRT (space pirate) stations and ships...

In my games they leave me alone unless I get too close whether I have weapons and I'm attacking them or not. I've had games where pirates had stations within 8km of my station and it was peaceful until I went to take a look at their stuff.

Does your guide explain what distance triggers an attack? I think that's the answer this topic is looking for. I read it long ago. I'll read it again.

Getting pirates to attack is pretty easy to do: fire at them.
