Why does everyone like Weaponcore?
I've never used it. What's so great about it?

Hi, it set all auto, so just make sure you have Power, place a turret and it will work automatically, it deletes/remove some turret options in control panel, the options you would use to setup manually without the Weaponcore Mod.

And I think it helps Modders on adding new cool weapons to the game that is limited to bullets and missiles in Vanilla.

Info +
YouTube video Tuto for Weaponcore can be found that will show you more on how to lock target that will show on screen for example, while we need a LCD + Scripts in Vanilla.

Oh! I forgot the most important, Weaponcore Mod adds the possibility of doing Huge space battles with a good Simulation Speed, well that was what Xocliw said in the first video he made about that Mod.

Weaponcore is also a framework for building custom weapons. A 3rd party modder doesn't have to reinvent the wheel, so to speak, making their own weapons and turrets.

Is it really night and day when it comes to battle sim speed?

When you're firing plentiful turrets, missiles, or the like: Yes, the performance gains can be day & night.

It also allows Lasers, Tracking missiles, minefields, EWAR (EMP, Anti-Smart (Flares), Anti-Jump Drive, push\pull fields, DOT), beams that curve, animated projectiles, flak fields, cluster-weapons, drones and many more features such as Multi-Turrets (1 block, multiple weapons capable of independently tracking, say 7 turrets firing at 7 targets at the same time, inside a 1x1x1 box)

Pretty much this, weaponscore simply lets you make weapons that you can't really achieve with just the vanilla framework. All of which with less lag.

It adds a lot of things that base game combat lacks(at least used to until last warfare update) and that's pretty much it.

Combat used to be extremely short-ranged and one dimensional without it in the past.

That sounds really interesting. I tried looking up some tutorials and it looks really cool.
Could anyone recommend some good weapon mods for it?

MWI stuff for staple weapons
https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=244850&searchtext=mwi+weaponcore

Northwind also has some pretty traditional weapons

Aryx for variety if you don't mind some questionable balance

And more

Ive been having issues with NorthWind weapons pack and a few others some of the bigger turrets have no options for manual control.

I can explain that.

Not a bug, design feature.
The most optimized block type is a sorter, which doesn't have the normal manual control button in the terminal - they instead are still able to be manually controlled via the Target Painter, and Manual-Control modes in the Toolbar.

Most turrets are also far better at landing blows than a player regardless.

You can check their page and see which mods they use for example.
