What is it, can someone explain it to me, do I need it if yes, why? if not, why?

When you ignore the rev and dowshift too quickly you get nasty wheels lock up on some cars due to high gear ratio difference this will compensate for that I think. So if you don't have a clutch and can't do "heel and toe" turning this option on will greatly reduce that risk. I'll leave the detail for more experienced one lol

The way I understand it Auto blip will attempt to match the revs on downshift like heel and toe downshifting, you still need to shift at appropriate speeds to avoid spins but it helps a little.

Yeah as balil says. It sounds techical but its pretty simple. Its basically throttle the engine quickly and release while down shifting to a lower gear, and by doing so (blipping) you match the rpm that is on the lower gear. If you dont do that then you can get nasty side effects such like sliding off the track or get nasty "jump/jolt" when speed in wheels dont match from the gear you are in when downshift.

So its throttling quick when downshift to match the lower gears rpm = smooth downshift with no nasty side effects. With a gamepad or keyboard its hard to set and use clutch well i think so throttle blip is the perfect help when using those to drive with.

Welcome to a real simulator. :)

Interesting, thanks

Throttle `blip` is also useful in real life to change gears on a car without use of the clutch pedal by matching engine speed to gearbox speed- damn useful to know if your clutch suddenly goes or the cable snaps. :)

wowww, so how do you change gears without clutch, teach me master

Without USE of the clutch PEDAL.
You know the pedal to the left of the middle one aka the brake?
Or are you from a country who seems to favour the `automatic` versions of all cars? LOL

dude you said you can change gears without using the cluthc pedal, that is what I mean how do you do it?
Alex Dec 25, 2013 @ 8:30am
Just change gear? Not a matter of how - just shift. :)

Of course you set the clutch to "auto clutch" first. Thats why you also use auto blipping. Perfect when you dont have wheel/pedals.

In real cars, if you have the rpm's at a correct number at a given speed, you can shift gears without pressing in the clutch, this is very common practice to do on dirt bikes especially.

In the thread above the devs explain a few things about how throttle blip and cut works in this game.. Might be interesting to read up on.

Depends a lot on kind of gearbox and which gears you are on..
If there's synchro-gears in gearbox it is different than on something without them.

So before you go try it in real-life and make a mess of it take time to practice that in AC..
