Thrustmaster T150 vs G29 - Good starting wheels?
Which one should I go for as a first time buyer of a wheel I don't want anything too expensive so I can get a feel for it until i make upgrades thanks in advance. (other recommendations appreciated)

t150 so you can get into the thrustmaster ecosystem, and later upgrade to other thrustmaster products which are better than what logitech has to offer,
ive owned 3 logitech wheels. the G27 and G29 lasted less than 2 months of ownership before dying a hideous death. i now own a thrustmaster wheel which is in its 2nd year of hardcore abuse (dirfting) and still going strong. needless to say i will never buy another logitech product again and not just because of logitech suspect build quality, the FFB you get from a thrustmaster wheel feels so much more superior, they make the logitech wheels feel like a toy.

for a small price increase look at getting a T300 or one of its variants. what you get in return for the small price increase is a much smoother realistic FFB, better build quality, better customer care, and it will work as it should right out the box without having to apply a 3rd party app to stop it feeling so loose and cheap (the LUT generator everyone with a logitech wheel will tell to go and download)

people that have only owned a logitech wheel will tell you to buy a logitech wheel.

people that have owned both logitech and thrustmaster will tell you to buy a thrustmaster wheel.

there is a BUT at the end of this, if you start getting into your sim racing you are going to want to get better pedals (with a clutch at least) and a gear stick and those arent cheap when you have gone down the thrustmaster rabbit hole.
Started with a T150 which was I thought a good buy until the wheel started cutting out after overheating, firmware update(s) did not help.
Comes with two toylike pedals.
I then picked up a G29 which is a lot better, sturdy, works out of the box.
I now have the Shifter to go with the 3 pedals and have no problems to date but I have stretched a rubber band around the stick to stiffen up the shift.

The T150 is boxed up, sitting in the corner, I'm going to give it to someone, I would not resell.

I thought I may have been unlucky and got a dummy T150 but teh net reveals similar instances.

Go for the G29 + Shifter is my advice.

I had a Logitech G27 for 6-7 years and it got heavy use. Still worked like new when I sold it (upgraded to a Fanatec setup). If budget is limited and you are stuck between the T150 and a G29, I'd take the G29 all day long. However if you can spring the extra $ and get a T300, I'd definitely take that over a G29. Out of the box, the G29 has better pedals than the T150, and also has a shifter.

Wouldnt i have to upgrade the pedals on the t300 as well?

Ideally yes, however the FFB detail and strength on the T300 is better than the Logitech stuff, which for me would offset the pedal issue and makes it worth the extra money in my opinion.

You can always buy the T300 in pieces though as well. So you could get the T300 base, get one of TM compatible wheels for it, then you could have options on pedals. You could choose to get the TM T3PA or T3PA-Pro pedals, you could source some G27/G29 pedals (adapter required) to connect to it, or you could even go with something like the Fanatec CSL Elite load cell pedals.
Basically, EVERYTHING I've seen indicates going with Thrustmaster for feel/build quality.. . mostly, just the T-300 or higher. Aside from the likes of more expensive setups offered by Fanatec, I'm shooting for a T300 myself. However, there was a full wheel/pedals setup on offer, not long ago, for $333 by a new(er) company that uses more modern & advanced tech.
Highly doubt it is still that cheap for package, as the pre-order date has passed.

I've heard from multiple people that Thrustmaster don't have as long of a life span like the Logitech ones.

Using G920, lots and lots of hours still fine. Logitech wheels often are the most commonly supported wheels across titles because of their popularity so there is that too.
