The Mx5 will blitz to 100mph quicker than your Fiesta 1400 which would take probably as long to get to just 60mph. Torque at the wheels is determined by the gears, lower gears have more torque to propel the car but less top end- its possible the gearing by Mazda is made for quick acceleration and not top speed as 140bhp 1.8 runs out of puff at over 120mph anyway.
even my old fiat punto elx 1.3 85 bhp was going for 185 km/h xD
they have almost the same torque, Mazda has around 150NM the ford has 120NM.
the ford has a very short gearbox! i can be at 80 km/h at 6500 rpm at the end of the 2nd gear
tyres in both of these cars don't go up to 2.0 / 2.1 Bar...
Assetto corsa have nailed it..the boys know car physics.
yes, its handling is amazing
150nm vs 120nm is not anywhere near `almost the same torque`- its a huge difference and the Mazda is far faster than a 1400 Fiesta any day, heck probably faster than the 2.0 litre Fiest ST with the Mondeo engine.
But not as good as my MKIII MR2.
The MR2 handles far far better than the MX5 with the engine mid-mounted and having a `proper` driving position and sporty drive- the MX5 tries to be a `sports` car but with its lumpy handling and pretty inprecise road control, makes it more of a `pretend` sports car with a drop-top, no wonder `hairdressers` love them so much, the wind in their hair...
MR2 is one of my favourite affordable cars !!!
but i never drove neither rode one :(
A couple years ago i was thinking about to get one, but 1.8 130bhp with an average of 7.5/ 8 L/100 of petrol... The petrol is very expensive in my country !!!
My in mind option will be a 320d E92 which is pretty eco for its power! And easily does 5.X L/100 and of course diesel is around 3 times less expensive than petrol in my country.
