Difficulty settings
Soo.... I don't know if it's just me, but I just got AC and started the campaign. The first time trial was no challenge at all. I felt since it was the beginning, I should'nt have much of a challenge against the AI. But when I went to the first race... I realized... I've been fooled. I got wooped, smoked, REKT. I got mad, thought my car was intentionally made to go slower. It's like I'm playing those old school arcade racer games where I'm going against all the boss characters. I can't even get close to 7th place. No matter what assists I give myself, I'm left 17+ seconds behind. The games default AI skill is at 98%. I'm not sure if this is a practical skill level for first-timers but I was wondering if anyone is actually able to win against the 7 Arbarth boss racers. Is 98% AI skill level a "normal default" setting? Or maybe I may have switched it that high by accident?

It Varies.. I better in some cars and on some tracks than others. Therefore 98% suits some combos but I need to lower for others.

Gotta say I just picked up this sim tonight and had just about the exact same experiece lol! Did fine on the time attack, easy gold medal. Then just totally outclassed in the first race on 98% difficulty. Try it on 80% or maybe 85% to start with? Kinda demoralizing having newbies get stomped on their first race. Ofc, I didn't touch the car setup at all, just went with all defaults and maybe that's the problem?

Correct tire pressure & camber make you magically faster.

Thank You. That video was a great deal of help. I'm still a bit confused on the set-up layout as I've come from playing Forza. I can understand and adjust my tires correctly now. Are there more videos like this that explain how the other parts of the car effect the physics? Like the breaking force, gearing, differential? I am looking forward to jumping into drifting really soon...

Just set the difficulty waaaaaaaaay down. I think 98% is pretty high, you might just wanna start with 80 or 85. If the game is to easy, then continually increase it a bit race after race until you feel you got a nice challenge.

Racing sims like AC can be pretty damn difficult and punishing, and getting frustrated is no fun. The enemies don't cheat, btw.

Thanks for the tips! One question I had was how can I get the HUD to show the tire pressure details like in the video? Also, I noticed that for the first race, you have no chance to warm up your tires and it's only 3 laps so I added 1 or 2 psi and it seemed to help. The other thing is they start you with FAR too much fuel for the novice campaigns. Empty some of that gas tank and you'll be lighter!

In real tracking you want some negative camber and lower tire pressure, Is that how it works in the game?

On the right bar, there is a tire app with all necessary information. I'm not sure what exactly it is called.

For warming up wheels, you can activate tire blankets in realism settings. That'll make sure wheels are preheated like in F1. Not sure if they are 100% race ready, but they're gonna be much better.

There's this guide published by KuBr0 which is useful.

The tire pressure & camber is very simple, but it affect a lot the overall grip. It's important to re check after changing setup. It's important to ride hard on the rumble strip to get a decent reading.

There's also the default FOV difference from Forza & Assetto Corsa which may require you to get used to it. keeping the correct timing & choosing the right racing line on elevation can be misleading.

Keyboard shortcut is essential to know

Well Turbo setting, DRS, MGU mode exploit is also a game changer.

erm about the career, it might of changed since i last looked at it but i know you didnt need to win some of the races, it tells you you only need maybe 1 silver and 2 bronze to progress to the next set of races so it never intends you to win. i can think of one of those races that puts you in a bmw e30 racing against bmw e92 v8, and not even a forza style divebomb on the first corner can win that race.

quick tip for getting faster, race your own ghost. go on hotlap with the car and track you are struggling with and just bash 20 laps out against your own ghost, try different lines through corners and see how it stacks up against the way you normally go round said corners.

i personally wouldnt advise worrying about setting your car up untill you are at your limit on a track otherwise you cant really be sure if what you changed is helping or not. apart from fuel, 30 litres of fuel in is like having a fat kid on the back seat.

The basic setup is what you should do first with the Tires Pressure & Camber. After you run at your limit & you end at look up at the rest of the car setup.

Yes, the game does not expect you to pplace first each race, I believe I only need at least 3 bronze medals to advance. My problem was I can't get bronze if I'm not even competetive against 7th place. I stress again, I'm finishing 17 seconds behind. There needs to be some serious improvement. I've been told racing against my ghost improves time. That's what I've been doing these past few days and it helps.

Also, to empty the gas tank, do I just drive the car until it goes down? Can I set how much is in the car? How do I empty the tank?

Thanks once again. The guide explains clearly what each setting does. My lap times are getting much shorter. I'm still losing pretty bad on first race but I'm at least able to keep up with 7th place.
Nabeghlavi Apr 25, 2017 @ 1:00am
For the first race, goto the wrench option and select fuel tab. Either just use enough fuel to finish the race, or turn fuel options off and run with almost nothing. The default fuel setting is a half tank, which is totally overkill for your first race and 3 laps on a short course. Also, if you kept 98% opponent difficulty, chances are it will be really really hard to win. Lower that to 85%. Also, the starting car really didn't suit my driving style. Later cars were much easier to handle and fun to drive so don't worry about mastering the Fiat, just beat that race and move on to more fun cars!

The difficulty of the campaign is completely unbalanced and makes no sense whatsoever. I'd set the ai slider to a value where you can battle the ai when it drives the same car as you do. Most races feature cars that are way faster than your own and you have no chance of winning. Just accept it and take the next challenge ;).
