Building won't demolish - builders idle, prio tool doesn't work
I've been trying to demolish this damn ill-placed tavern building for years (well, banished game years) in order to rebuild it somewhere else. It won't, it still stands there, demolishing symbol over it, 10% of storage left and it will not be demolished, no matter what I do.

This is what I tried so far:

- use prioritize tool, once, multiple times, hundred time, to no avail
- assign builders, unassign them, switch professions around, re-assign builders, assign more builders than required...
- ensure all other tasks (e.g. resource gathering) are stopped or finished - yes, they are. nothing else to do for my builders or laborers. They continue to idle and run silly errands for other professions (even though there are enough people assigned to these).
- increase simulation speed and wait 10 years, building is still there
- use all available "remove whatever" buttons in the game to see if that will do the trick, nope

Please, anyone, this surely must be a bug, no?

Neither the market nor the barns were full. And they did overlap, in that the 2 pillars of the taverns "balcony" or whatever you call it stood on the edge of the market. I dunno why it let me build it that way in the first place, but it did.

That's not an overlap per se, they don't actually share squares. It's an eye-candy thing. Same happens with quarry.

In your case, the market goes down one bigger than it actually takes. Try putting a road around it and you'll see what I mean.

Regardless, you've solved the issue and that's the main thing. Whatever works :)

Also of note: it's not builders, but laborers, that empty building inventory. Even though idle builders default to being laborers, it does mean that if you have too many laborer jobs assigned (like clearing an area) all those many "collect stone" or "carry lumber to stockpile" jobs will just totally outnumber the single "empty this building" job. It appears to me that when you prioritize a demolish job, its the demolishing and not the emptying that gets the priority.

If the laborer that takes that job is halfway across the map, he might even take a season to get there, transport all he can carry (which might be 1%) and then take the next job in the queue (getting iron across the map). That assumes he doesn't just stop because he gets hungry or is cold or needs something else.
I solved the same Problem by setting the Alcohol limit to 0...the brewer stopped working and i just needed to wait till they fetched all the booze...then i could demolish the tavern...i think the problem is that alcohol is stored in the tavern only =/

Piecing together info from you other recent post, if you have a Trade Post then increase the ale limit in the Trade Post to force all the ale to be moved to the Trade Post.

I don't know how many folks still play this but I have an update? to this discussion. The OP is correct I believe in his guess that the tavern is/was too close to another building. I have a dock warehouse that is adjacent to an industrial trade wharf. When I first constructed it folks bringing goods got stuck. They could drop off but could not leave and then the homeless icon appeared above their heads. They began to increase in number. I constructed more housing, some of it very near, so that I had empty houses. They did not move from the dock storehouse ..just sort of circled around in place. So I hit demolish. They went away but the warehouse for over 30 game years has sat with the symbol for removing it proudly displayed above its 'head'. I believe access is blocked by proximity to the adjacent building. Since reading this I am going to try removing the adjacent building which is gonna' be a pain since it is a trading post and all the goods will need to be removed, a new facility built and restocked. To add to the situation that post is sitting next to a seeds trading post. Will I have to move both? lol .. not sure but I will report back when I get it done.

UPDATE: It just keeps getting stranger. So I moved the trade dock to the other side of the river. The dock large storage still would not get removed so I reclaimed it. And it started to function normally for about a year. The all of a sudden it 'produced' about 20 homeless people! I just let it be and eventually one by one they left to seek housing. Well, good. Back to normal. NOT! Every so often it produces more homeless people! And I know they are extraneous because my population number goes up when they appear. So they are not just my own laborers getting stuck. It just periodically makes more. A lot of hanky panky going on in there :) But .. Why???? lol!!!

When a lot of weird stuff is happening, the most likely problem is that you aren't using the most current version of Banished (1.0.7 - build 170910) and/or you are using an out of date mod. If you are using Colonial Charter, make sure you are using version 1.76.

I don't know if my problem fits on this one as it is not Tavern related, but it is builder related, my builders are just idling or getting food or doing anything but building. I have more than necessary assigned to the tasks, resources are sufficient, everyone has tools, and yet, they haven't biult a damn thing in over 2 in-game years. It's still an early game so it can still be saved before I'm overrun.

I am using Version 1.0.7 Build 170910. I use Megamod Version 6 (10.6) and Light Rain Version 1 (10.4). Not sure if any of this would be the source of the glitch. I have Colonial Charter 1.76, but do not have it enabled as both Megamod and CC are not compatible.
