But why should I wait 5 minutes before re-assigning the jobs???
You have no heart.
Someone needs to come out with the soilent green mod.
Well, you don't have to wait 5 minutes. When I decide to 're-house' someone it usually is just demolish and then reclaim only a couple of seconds later to get the house occupied by someone else. And if that doesn't work then I give it a couple of extra seconds next time, until they get the message !!
But I'm doing this to force new pairs together rather than re-assign jobs. The game does a pretty decent job of re-assigning people to close by jobs anyway. It can take a short while for jobs to be re-assigned, but the game will get round to it.
The problem with my game is, that I have over 2500(!!) jobs to re-assign or at least 1000, if I only re-assign jobs for food production! Have lots of trouble recently, cause people are living too far away from work and I don't get enough food, not even as much as I could get!
Ah, OK. I see. I guess the problem is that at 2500 population you are near CPU limits so maybe the game doesn't get to the part of re-assigning jobs behind the scenes before the next round of calculations begin ?
I guess at such high population figures you need a way to affect large portions of the population, rather than go into individual buildings to do stuff. In which case, just de-assigning (part or all) the jobs for a few seconds is your best option. Certainly waiting 5 minutes is not on as you lose a lot of production time. Maybe the best bet (after making a save) is to de-assign all jobs, make another save, exit and then re-load the map and assign jobs again. At least then the game probably has no notion of who was previously employed where so has to do it from fresh.
How much human flesh do you think could be harvestd from a grave at the grave yard. The childfren are getting hungry.
I tried it several times, but it did not work! Most times maybe like 1 of 3 farmers was housed near the cropfield, but the others lived at the other side of the map, like a mile away. Same with other jobs!
The way my game is right now, I can't really continue and I don't want to, cause everyone is going to die soon, cause lots of cropfields are not harvested completely, some not at all! Production in general is f**ked cause of the stupid assignment of jobs, I lack of everything!
Is there another solution maybe, I mean others managed towns that big, too. I produce not enough food, I know, but with trading (if I had some to trade) I could get enough, probably!
My ONLY real problem is the assignment of jobs not working right for me!!!
I have like 700 population in my current town and over 200 of them are laborers. When I built a new quarry, most of the Stonecutters live too far away. I'm working on adding more houses close to the quarry and then plopping more houses on the other side of town so laborers move out.
In general, I always keep a row of houses close to my crop fields (and several barns) and the game is usually smart enough to assign people close to their jobs, as long as there are enough houses.
