I think climate only affects the growth of crops/which crops grow well (and how much firewood you use).

I think in the base game, harsh weather does have a slightly higher chance of tornados than mild climate (something like 1 for 20 years versus 1 for 50 in average). It has no impact on fire/disease from what I remember.
Climates added by mods might or might not increase disaster chances, you have to ask that to the author of the mod :)

Thankyou for the answers :3 I was just kinda wondering if by selecting the mild setting, I had made tornado's impossible. It had been about 40 years since game start so I was beginning to wonder :D Thanks again.

I'm on my first game with disasters and had none in the first 50 years - within the next 10 years I'd had 2 fires and 1 tornado.

I've had devastating tornadoes when using the mild climate. One waited to appear after I had just reached 2000 citizens and built my cathedral! I believe these are produced on a random, infrequent basis. However, like anything random, you can simply by lucky or unlucky.
