you can change farmers to other jobs during winter. then change them back in spring

Your farmers do labourer jobs after the harvest is over instead of jst iddling, so there's no real loss if you don't micromanage that.
And actually any worker unable to work at his assigned job (no materials, or limit reached) will act as a labourer.

There are risks with not leaving them as farmers all year round. The main risk is that when early spring starts you really need to have your farmers close to their fields so they start sowing as soon as possible. So if you don't re-assign farmers back early enough then they could be half way across the map when early spring starts, which delays sowing and the knock on effect could reduce yield.

so you say i should leave them farmers and in the winter they will work as labourers?
bmorgan077 Nov 8, 2015 @ 2:21pm
yep, anybody that cant do their job for whatever reason will work as laborers until their work comes back
Zarathustra Nov 8, 2015 @ 2:22pm
Yeah. There is pretty much always SOMETHING for labourers to do. I mark out large areas of forest for clearing to keep them busy during the winter if they don't have anything else to do. No need to micromanage them, citizens will never really idle for long, they are programmed to do labourer stuff if they can't do their regular job.

Yep, they become labourers. Have a look at the ingame help (near the bottom of the 'crop field' page) which confirms this. Lots of other helpful info in there as well.

Do you mean the farm has a stop sign above it? If so, click on the farm and set the farm to work.

Click on the pitchfork that say 'work' to take the farm out of 'stopped' state. Then click on the question mark to assign a crop (e.g., beans, wheat, pumpkin, whatever you have).

Vrayna Nov 10, 2015 @ 7:23am
You need to click on the Question Markl first to assign a type of crop to plant. And to do that, you need to have seeds. No one will think of going to work there befoer you tel them what they should be planting.
