There really are plenty.
Ostriv, Pioneers of Pagonia, Sumerians & Farthest Frontier are all on my wishlist.

In my opinion, these are the closest (that I own):
- Life Is Feudal - Forest Village: almost like Banished when it first came out, simply a Banished clone.
- Patron: feel less of a "survival" game, very close to Banished, prettier.
- Endzone - A World Apart: good survival elements, DLC has a story, has an end-game objective, customizable difficulty.

Slightly different scale (these two games are from the same developer and can be bundled for a low price):
- Planet Base: much smaller base, futuristic setting.
- Dawn of Man: best survival feeling, more up-close to individual inhabitant, controllable inhabitant, has combat, no random map.

try out songs of syx for sure, its basically top down banished but super super super in depth and has armys and empire building. Theres also kingdoms reborn.

This thread is really sad, and not because of OP. It's sad because NONE of those games recommended come anywhere close to Banished. And whoever recommended games like Rimworld, stop trolling. You knew darn well OP was looking for games with the same perspective of Banished.

You are right. If you are looking for an "exact copy" of Banished, there is only one game in the universe will fit the criteria, and that would be: Banished.

Besides, the OP asked for "games similar to Banished". Nothing about "as good" or "better".

Kingdoms Reborn is very similar in core concepts with a card system that adds a unique twist, definitely recommend you check it out.

There is no other, like it and there never will.

Tropico is similar, in that you are building out a city and maintaining happiness and health of your citizens. It adds some additional mechanics - political factions and a dictator (benevolent, corrupt? You choose how you want to rule!)

I prefer Tropico 4, then Tropico 6. Didn't play 2 or 3.

I really like Anno 1404. The mechanics are a bit different, but it's still basically a City Builder. I like that the houses get upgraded.

I've played many of the other games listed on this thread but none of them come close to Banished for me. I'm waiting for Manor Lords to come out and hoping it scratches the Banished itch. But with the massive mod support this game has, I'm not sure anything will come close to it.

Quite a few releases recently, though ofc the genre has been healthy for decades. Personally I'm playing Medieval Dynasty this last year or two. It's Banished (i.e. a management sim) plus 1st person mode (rather well done frankly) plus 4k-ultra-hyper-nuclear-plasmotic graphics from the future year 2077 utopia of gaming.
