This gets asked A LOT.

Check this thread http://steamcommunity.com/app/242920/discussions/0/594820656455122876/ or this one
http://steamcommunity.com/app/242920/discussions/0/540734423681791617/ or just do a search on "map seed" and review the other threads that ask this same question (currently 47 pages of results)

Those links don't work anymore because the map seeds changed since the update. But your suggestion to use the search function is still relevant.

For anyone looking for map seeds using the search function, make sure to check the date of the post. I forget when the patch that changed the map seeds was released, but a good rule of thumb is to stick to threads and posts from 2016.

It changed in the 1.0.5 release that came out 19th May 2016.

Same here :/ seeds don't work.
I'm looking for an easy large map: with large flat area, near a river and some mountains. not much lake

Edit: 121231212 Valley Large - is not bad

One of the reasons I like playing with Colonial Charter is the new map types where there is more open space. It's something to look forward to when you no longer are trying for Achievements.

That is decent in an overall sense.

The other reason is for the terrain mod tool I imagine.

Gotta be careful. Some of those map types are pretty tough.

For most people I would recommend they get the base game down pat before delving into that rediculous game. Colonial Charter is a mod that makes you want to develop every building before you even upause the game the first time.

So far the map seed I've had the best success in would be map seed 890184729 in Valley, Large, and on Medium Difficulty. I managed to reach 12 years before I started to loose the only reason I lost is because I didn't make the trading post, town hall, and market quick enough I started loosing villagers to old age and by the time I was finished making the three buildings, my population dropped from 25 all the way to 15 in a matter of 2 years. If I finished the buildings sooner and had Nomads coming in I probably would have survived. My villagers just stopped reproducing and I had no new childeren during years 5 though 12 and everyone started dying of old age. So I guess I have to develop the three buildings sooner so I can get Nomads into my village as quickly as possible in order to prevent the village from falling apart from old age.

I rather feel your population loss was due to miss-management of houses. In early game you only need a new house when you see you have a young male/female adult pair ready to couple up. If you build a house when no new pair is ready to couple up then you will split up an existing couple, as the game mechanics insist on all houses being occupied. [The only time this rule is broken is when a tornado or disease wipes out a large chunk of population.] So you either over-built your houses or under-built your houses !!

People generally live to around age 80 in this game and age 1 year per season. So the average life-span of a person is 20 game years. If you have no schools then people become adult at age 10, otherwise they become a student at 10 and study for roughly 8-14 years at which point they become an adult. Women can give birth up to age 40 and have up to 3 children.

Also check out Banisha's pinned thread if still struggling with population control.

That makes sense but exactly how do you determine when it is a good idea to build homes. I always start with a boarding home to prevent the villagers from hoarding food and firewood.

You can, quite literally, look in each house and check the ages of everyone when you only have a few houses. The Town Hall will also provide a good guide as it has a families count and a houses count. Whenever the families count exceeds the houses count you know it is safe to build. That's because the families count is actually telling how many you COULD have, not how many you actually have.

When you get to the point that you want to build say 5 houses in a year (which is about the max I ever build a year) then I would stagger their build so you don't get massive birth rate spike and then death rate pike.

With my most recent maps I have started to build just 4 houses for the opening population - I use Hard start so only get 4 families. That way I completely control the population growth as I literally do not build any more houses until every house has 5 people living in them. The reason I do this is because I know a fully staffed Gatherer Hut can easily produce enough food for 20 people a year. So it gives me time to work on establishing a solid base. I actually wait until the single adults are in their early 20's before building any more houses as it still gives them 15 or so years to have 3 children of their own.
