Wheat and corn are the only two source of grain in the game.
So wheat isn't used as food?
Fishing needs lot of water within the circle. Avoid building bridge and TP too close the FD. You can keep the productivity high with houses and barns next to it. If the closest barns are full and the worker need to walk further away to store the fish, production will drop (people mistaking it as "over fishing").
Gatherers Huts are the easiest to set up and get running and produce food all year round.
Orchards take 3 to 4 years before you see any crop from them.
The meats are good for trading as 1 meat unit can be turned into 3 units of most other food types.
