is there a way to get a truly flat map?
i just want to practice and build a town on a 100% flat terrain with maybe a river and hill on one side of the map for trade and mines but all the rest will be flat

i searched for map seeds all i find are results from 2014 and they are not even good maps filled with rivers and little islands

This is one of the best seeds I've seen.

Flat maps are overrated. Love the extra build room, but I like mountains as they are the one thing other than water coverage tht give the maps and individual games some real diversity.

I have been playing around with the mods, and for the hard setting why not download the Old Growth Forests mod so you can choose your own location start and find the perfect place to build a gatherer's hut in a good patch of the growth? So you actually have a choice and don't starve...

also for my own games, would people recommend getting a population/year stabilizer (ex. one year is one year mod) so that i can take my time building stuff?

There is a pause function in game. You can hit that and spend 500 years or more planning your town out if thats how you want to play.

I do this by the way, I plan everything out over the whole map. All I am basically then doing is managing and putting up the right buildings at the right time.

It becomes difficult when you are over 1500/2000 pop and nowhere to build houses...the impending doom starts. Unless you come up with adaptive and stratgetic gameplay.

I usually build about 15 trading posts, and start buying my raw materials in, log - coal - stone - iron, as mining, foresters etc take up too much room. I also buy food (for variety) with animal products, like venison, beef and mutton. Whilst I leave buying raw materials with firewood, ale, steel tools and warm coats.I also mass produce fish, a great way to buy raw materials as it's so easily produced and relatively cheap labour. (4 fishermen do 1500 to 2500 per annum.)

I personally find this fun, the race against time to not go into regressive growth, sort of like a middle age Japan or something.

if you have mods and Verdant Plain is one of the options in the menu list for new games, that will give you large areas of flat.....

Very nice starting location. River is to North-East, East and South-East.
A nice forest off to the West, small mountains nearby for several Mines, and the best bit is a flat starting area roughly 80 squares high and 150 wide.

To build on a flat map. I use the Colonial Charters, WaterWorld Map, with their terrain tool, and build flat areas on the water, as large and or small as I want. No trees to deal with, no hills, nothing but big flatland. the ground is brown, but oh well. Works really really great for me.
