Verdun

Is Verdun realistic or arcady ?
Title.

I think Verdun is realistic in the uniforms, maps, weapons.
As for the gameplay itself it is more arcady than realist : moon gravity jumps, strafe, etc.

Personnally I would like Verdun to be more immersive.

Leans more towards arcady, though one could argue that, yes, uniforms, environments and weapon presentations add to authenticity, but authentic is as far as I'd take it when it comes to Verdun.

Regardless of the appearances, I would say it definitely leans more towards an arcady stlye of play. It is immersive in terms of environment and uniforms, and Yoshi above me previously hinted at, but the combat is arcady.

It's arcade and should stay that way. If the people who want realism got their way the game would be a crawling simulator with everyone just sitting prone in the trenches until lvl100 arty on steroids whipes out an entire trench. It would be a frustrating game that no one would want to play.

Yes it is arcady but I wouldn't mind some more "realistic" mechanics such as :
- a vaulting system instead of bunny jump
- more supression effect at least for mgs so you can properly cover your comrads
- the ability to hold E for 5 secs to get out of barbed wire (while doing this you can't fire)
- the ability to hold E to help a teamate get out of barbed wire (it would take 2 or 3 secs)

I wouldn't mind also more immersion :
- better sounds (for exemple of bullets passing near you, death scream synchonised with the animation, etc.)
- a better suppression effect and weapon sway when you're under fire (mostly under arty or grenades)

If realistic mechanics serves immersion or encourage teamplay it's fine for me.

You can't make Verdun into a realistic FPS anymore in my opinion. You would need to recreate the game as a whole. There are alternatives to Verdun, mainly mods if you search for a WWI T/FPS game. For example, Mount & Blade Warband Napoleonic Wars Iron Europe or Day Of Infamy Screaming Steel.

You won't need to recreate everything but to rework mostly gameplay and create a whole lot of animations for the vaulting system.
The other animations, the models are already realists and historically accurate.

Tested Screaming steel, meh.

Maybe the next red orchestra would be about ww1.
i personnally think it's realistic, but not a simulator. LIke the fact you can just call in a recon plane or an artillery strike and it will come almost instantenously. However besides that you have weapons and uniforms very close to the real one, you will most likely die from in one hit et there is bullet physics (bullets speed and drop)

Authentic yes. realistic no.

Pretty much my thoughts. And as Woeski said, Verdun would either have to be completely rebuilt from the ground up or be an entirely different game in order to be considered realistic.
that's what i said; it canno't be considered a fully realistic game, but, really, it's probably better that way. A full realistic experience probaly wouldn't be fun

You can't make a realistic game out of this without redoing everything from scratch.
