The controller doesn't work.
Both PS5 and Xbox controllers show support before entering the game. However, after entering the game, the controllers don't work and cannot be used.

I use DS4Windows with my controller, works pretty well for me

My controller only malfunctions in this particular game; once I'm in the game, it doesn't work. I'm not sure how to resolve this. Has anyone encountered a similar situation?

Have you tried disable or enable steam input? Right click game > Properties > controller.

That's unnecessary, at least on the Epic version. It supports DualShock4 and DualSense natively.

Granted, the reason I don't own this game on Steam is because Steam Input doesn't work for me and I stay as far away from Steam as possible to avoid problems.

It's possible it doesn't work for you either. You -should- be able to disable DS4Windows and SteamInput and then get native controller support, stuff like proper icons and haptics -- just don't do that with a controller paired over Bluetooth or it'll murder your performance.

I have tried, but it didn't work. The controller is still functional before entering the game.

I'm quite distressed; both my Xbox controller and PS5 controller become unresponsive upon entering the game. I'm unsure of the cause, especially considering they work fine with other games.

You could try Special K, we have support for all of those devices.

https://sk-data.special-k.info/repository/SpecialK_24.3.23.exe

Launch the game with the latest version, open the control panel (press Ctrl+Shift+Backspace), under Input Management, select Block Gamepad Input APIs -> XInput (if you want to use your PlayStation controller) or HID if you want to use Xbox.

If blocking XInput doesn't get your PlayStation controller working, one last thing you can try is Block HID, Unblock XInput, under "PlayStation (DualShock 3/4 DualSense)", turn on XInput Mode.

Of course "XInput Mode" is going to leave you with Xbox buttons, but I guess you're pretty used to using Xbox controllers and maybe that won't matter..?

Just stating what works for me, and has been for years at this point. Button icons are accurate in this game, for me and have been playing over BT with a combination of settings getting around 100 FPS @ 3440x1440 iirc, ill be playing more today.

I use a DS3 controller in xinput mode and have had zero problems, steam sees it as xbox 360 controller, Only thing I hate are the xbox button prompts.
