I've played it for 29 hours back in 2015. I plead the case about the publisher taking the game back from me, so it was only fair I take my money back from them.
The email I got said:
lol... the product not working whatsoever IS a major defect. Also, in Australia, when you buy a product, the retailer don't come to your house some years later to take it back.
There must be something we can do about it. I've never read the terms and conditions but I bet I was never notified that after 9 years the game would be completely unplayable.
Shutting down online servers is fair enough.. I don't expect the publisher to keep running those forever, but there is no excuse not to release an offline patch and let people play the single player story campaign.
Just like any Digital store. If they close, you lose access to all your game purchases. They're rentals at best.
Use this argument with Valve support and demand refund for absolutely every Ubisoft game that is not purely offline single player and every game that is tied to uplay\ubi connect! Their games are no relyable. Also demand a ban of Ubisoft from selling games on steam until they will restore access to all games, will patch them to be able to run and will remove Uplay and Ubiosoft server dependency and release user operatable server software and settings to replace servers in game with user operated, locally or online.
Remember - any of your Ubisoft game (since Assassin Creed 2 which introducer Uplay) now has expiration date and can be removed or partially or fully broken by Ubisoft at any time by turning off official servers! Same about DLC which they can prevent from being usable by turning off servers. So refund every Ubi game released since Assassin Creed 2.
There is no excuse for not having option to choose custom server like you can do in every old game with Multiplayer and for not releasing a server software (master and dedicated servers) to let users run custom servers when official servers are gone. This must be forced by laws! We must lobby such laws in every country! Every game shoould remain playable not just offline but online as well even without official servers!
Damn it. i can still play Doom and Quake online as well as any MP game from 90th and early 00th despite they are 24-30 years old, but cant play 9 years old game from Ubi! The whole "tie everything into centralized publisher controlled servers" concept is wrong and should be illegal and we must demand goverments to make it illegal to do so! Every online featured game should have options to change servers and server software should be released with any online featured game.
Ubisoft HQ is located in france, and that's one of the country's where consumers rights is a thing. So get in contact with their legal department, and lets take this to court.
