Its like Bloodborne in some way, bc like in bloodborne you can regenerate your hp you lost if you attack the enemy again.
Obviously you dont regenerate in AI Limit HP, but your Synchro which is important to do more damage with your normal attacks, use skills, parry, block etc. (Skills, Parry etc. costs Synchro)
With the missing stamina, its literally a action soulslike.....still a easy one but enjoyable
I also like how you can use 2 different weapons and switch between. For 35 bucks and as the first title from the studio, its great.
The only thing which bothers me are the voiceovers.
Altho I'd say its pretty easy, one tried every boss so far but some normal enemies feel like harder than bosses (nekros dudes).
My biggest concern probably might be the background music in locations, just feels very bland.
- I am a botanist!
- A botanist?
- Yes. And I need to plant a plant.
- A plant?
- Yes, its a living thing that needs sun, water and soil.
- A soil?
Like, her responses are just repetitive questions xD
I do understand it is lore-friendly as she doesnt remember a single thing and all that but it still feels so doltish
The game, graphically, reminds me of Code Vein and I like it. Gameplay-wise, it feels like Wo Long but, in a Lies of P sense, respects player choice on how you want to approach combat. I like that.
Only 3 hours in but this was a good random buy IMO.
I dont like the Dub option, neither the english or chinese one are great (at least in my opinion). I doubt they will improve it, but maybe with enough support they will add another option (like korean or japanese) and if we are lucky, maybe they will be better
Still early on I'm hoping this is good writing instead of just lack of effort. By that I mean I'm hoping Arrisa's VA treats this as a "growing" thing where her responses become more human and natural as you get later into the game. If you've ever played Persona 3 they did the same thing with Aegis (to be clear I understand an action game with sparse dialogue is never going to compete with a JRPG with dozens of hours of voiced dialogue, just the same concept of growth through more voiced emotion the further in one gets).
I will say its not as good as Code Vein, which is my favorite of the off brand souls games, its too easy to take it seriously but I always loved Code Veins presentation of story through the tableaus, the music, and the skill system. This is not on Code Vein's level. Some good things I like the concept of the multi functional arm except that parry is the only one worth anything. The sync system instead of having stamina is interesting I like it far more then managing stamina. Combat is functional, parry is a bit wonky, Sekiro this is not, but there are enough options to approach a problem in several different routes.
The story though is just bad, the world building isn't strong enough to use the souls method of environmental and investigative storytelling, and because the protag is an emotionless girl the character isn't interesting enough for me to care about.
Level design is serviceable most of the time, most areas don't stand out, there are a couple that are artistically cool but I wish they put more effort into the environments. there are some areas I hate with a passion its like every souls game has that one level that makes you want to slam your head into a wall rather then play it. So far for me this one's involves tons of elite enemies, an environmental hazard that takes half your life and stuns you, narrow walkways over death pits, and dropping down puzzles all at the same time.
Bosses are kinda meh, some of the designs are cool but the bosses are super easy, until they aren't. Late game there are at least two bosses I have found so far with 2 health bars. Both deal two different status effects that are your doom if either gets built up, both have a ton of health in both bars, and both ignore the normal rules of the game. The first even if you parry won't open it up for fatal attacks at all. The second one in addition is fast, has several off tempo attacks, must be parried multiple times in quick succession without you getting hit to open them up for fatal attacks, will kill you in 2 hits, and gets very aggressive in phase two. Still working on that second one.
Overall its not as good as Lies of P or Code Vein and definitely not as good as the fromsoft Souls games. However, i have had fun and don't regret my purchase. Its definitely not going to get NG+7ed but there are some good ideas here I wish they either leaned into those good ideas more or spent more time making the world itself more interesting.
Whole first area (in demo it is harder) was super easy. But things become better after.
This is souls, BUT I don't particularly appreciate the absence of stamina. It would be harder in combat and more interesting and I don't understand why they did it like in Sekiro.
The atmosphere in game is godlike how I feel it. I love apocalyptic and Fallout-like vibes and the dark ambience. Chinese voiceover is brilliant and perfectly fits.
The game is easy so far. I try not to level up unless I absolutely have to. Usually i do this only when I need to wield a weapon that I fancy.
Beated only two bosses so far.
Also, I like new mechanic where you have to do close-quarters combat to fill gauge which allows to do some magic or something else.
