Thief
Baron's Way South combination safe
Location: Just northeast of the docks, in an upper room, accessible by closed window from the north

There is a combination safe in here and I have scoured the room for a clue to the combination but can't find it. I did find a stopped clock of some sort with the hands stopped at 10:11:26 but using the first or second digits of each number didnt help, unless i'm reading it wrong.

Has anyone managed to open this safe? It's yet another lootable container that I havent managed to open and it's been driving me nuts for 3 chapters now...

Still haven't managed to figure this one out, so... self-bumping :/

Wow this is really old lol. It never occurred to me to come back and update this thread to say that I have long since found the combination :p

Thanks anyway :) :Awaken:

So was it 8-4-2?

The combination for the safe is the current year in game. The combination is hinted at by a document you find in one of the side quests from your fence.
This is one of the reasons the map being so lacking is a problem; if you're given information that refers to a location, you're often just guessing at where it might be and can't easily check.

You end up just hoping that you remember the hint next time you stumble across the place.

I agree. I kept wishing for an option just to make a map notation a lot of times. Never did get around to printing out a hard copy that I could make notes on, so I wrote a lot of them down on an erasable noteboard I keep handy. Not the best solution, as making map notations would have been far more preferable. Something we could do back in 1998 has since been lost. How sad this "progress" be. :-(
We do have more detailed in-game maps; they help us to find smuggler's stashes.

It's that main map that annoys me though. Not enough to quit the game over, of course, but just one of the many (very) minor gripes about it.
thats the one that is seen in the cabinet you hide in with your vision on right???

Whoops, I meant that as a joke, because they're just throwaway documents to point us towards a bit more loot, but they're marked better than the actual game map.

Forgot the :).

No problem...

About the smugglers' maps: I know, right? -- actual MAPS, Thief-y looking maps that actually fit the style of the time/game. Too bad the main map isn't so lovingly crafted. Oh well, maybe in a patch. ;-)
Hey guys. It's 8-2-4, not 8-4-2. Clue's on the "Miss Scarlett's Diary" you find on the table beside the sleeping girl. It's not the current year in-game, whatever that is.
No, it's 8-4-2. I just tried both. The original answer is correct.

Can confirm. 842 is the correct combination.
