2- As far as I know you have to select it as you get out of inv. BUT lets say you have a pistol equipped. If you switch that pistol for something else. Then that something else will be equipped when you leave inventory.
3- When you got all the skills for boosters. (There's 2) They last longer. Usually I use speed boosters and endurance boosters as a last resort during night when evading volatiles. Speed bioosters are very handy.... but since you got the grappling hook you might want to invest in endurance boosters instead.
Nightvision booster I'd say is more for a sneaky scenario when you want to avoid using your flashlight. I rarely use them outside of that goal.
2. On Normal mode, gameplay stops when you open menus, you can then replace your weapons and equipments, though to equip it in game you have to do it manually, or replace the weapon/equipment you were actually holding.
3. Not very much, I find stamina booster the most useful for fighting on Nightmare mode with melee weapons.
Update: 1.A few more queries. I have about 20 shields in my stash bag.
Are they really worth the space they take up in my inventory?
2.What does the "player menu" contain? I press "P" to access it but nothing happens.
I recently got a new outfit and it said I can access it by pressing "F"
Nothing happens here too.
You can switch your outfits in stash.
