Tell that to poe trade bots who sell yellow tier maps the same price as red tier ones.
It's not. It confuses people.
To each their own
bots will be bots.
Tell me how well it's designed that you can unlock the bonuses for maps you don't currently see and hence don't know the bonus condition for.
Tell me how well it's designed when you want to search how to unlock pantheon powers and have to shift around the watchstones because you don't see the maps that unlock the upgrades without them? (Try e.g. searching for "Lunaris" without about one or two watchstones to now where to work towards)
Tell me how well it's designed... I've seen the name of one of the regions first, without knowing what it meant, it resided so close to a map that I though I should run that map next for the atlas questline when it didn't really do much in that regard. It's not intuitive.
It's a new layout.
I have 8 stones, I have no idea what to do with them, when I place them, I can clearly notice maps going in tiers, but how do I progress to red tier maps?
Dude, I've been stuck at yellow tier for 2 days now, i'm literally one shotting everything at this point. I don't know how to progress towards the red tier, unless I buy bunch of red tier maps and try somehow (Trough lucky RNG) to sustain one specific area via watchstones, It seems like I can't get there on my own.
Instead of being cynical you could write something constructive, but apparently your basic understandment is worse then mine with Atlas.
By the way, next time when you try to act smart, you might wanna check few posts here and there just to see what the discussion is about, instead of showing up like clueless donkey. For your information you might wanna check the post above yours, and also Driver has brought up excelent flaws.
Look at the citadel, it has requirements for gems that you have not acquired. When it says it requires 2 stones it means you have to socket 2 colored gems in the citadel and map in that region for a while to make an Exile spawn. After x amount of maps you will encounter the exile.
They want you to map in regions and not all over the place. Socketing gems in a watchtower filling the requirements to unlock the next gem requires you to map in that region for a while until the Exile spawns.
To advance in to yellow and then red tier maps you need to upgrade your region to reveal these yellow and red tier maps. The more gems you have in a citadel the higher level the region which means higher level maps get revealed. Once these maps are revealed with the gems in the citadel you map in that region for a while, and you map the same way we did in previous atlas. Do the maps that are connected to the maps you don't have, they will drop. Drop rates aren't that great but I have a few t15 and t14s and a couple t11s now.
Watchstones are so important to progressing, but you will want to stay in one region at a time and for a period of time until you feel you are done in that area.
Oh yeah, that helps new players. And players that find upgraded yellow tier version that can unlock the bonus on magic maps, or later find red tier version that only require to be run magical as well. And then you should know which require the rare+corrupted vs magic because they're basically a white tier or rare because they started out as yellow tier? The rules have changed slightly, maybe you FORGOT that.
New players aren't likely to make it to mapping, look at how many people who have a couple hundred hours in the game still haven't beat the campaign? Let's not draw strawman arguments here.

Here is a T8 Jungle valley map, notice how it says you need to run it as a magic map to get the completion? This is a T1 map from a region I buffed with 4 gems to drop. You don't need a new completion because the BASE is a T1 not a T8.
