Outlast
Is the game "Outlast" really scary?
I have just recently purchased the horror game "Outlast" and would like to know if it's scary, kinda scary, or really scary. Can someone with experience playing the game tell me?

It was scary at first for me, but the novelty wore off a bit. I think it has to do with the fact they are using too many "Hey, here is this scary dude or two. Better run as they chase you with a cleaver!" gimmicks to keep that scary feeling up.
Yeah, really love this game, but replay value is not too high. Once you know what is going to happen or how to do a section it is not that intense anymore. But for the first time it is pretty awesome. I am playing Alien Isolation now, which is better in the sense that the enemies are completely unpredictable. Hopefully Outlast 2 (which I hear is in the works, or let me rather say being considdered - they would be stupid not to) also does it that way.

If you like horror-survival games (like Resident Evil or Silent Hill) you'll like it. It ain't pretty scary, just stressing as hell (most of the game) and mostly pop-ups.
I like that it mixes up the kind of jump scares though. For example, the very first jump scare you get puts you on edge (i wont say which one just in case someone hasn't played the game for longer than 11 minutes :P ) for the rest of the game, and it gets repeated maybe once more in the entire game. The game never felt stale to me because of that. The only gripe I have with it is that you might be repeating the same action with different fluff ( collect x of this to continue ) a bit too much.

Just playing through the DLC now, and it already scared me several times :( I really thought I'd be better harnessed against it now that I finished the original.
(From the little I've played so far). I personally found it rather intense all the way along, some bits freaked me out a little while others made me scream (I don't scram easily, this is the first time I have done so since I was very young (around 6 or so probably). So, personally I consider the game scary however if you are more used to horror games you may only really feel scared around the jump scares, which are pretty good and freaky in my opinion, so, yes it is definitely scary however you may not find it as so scary if you are a seasoned horror games player, however I do believe you will at least get a minor fright.
You guys should try cry of fear >:D

definetly, cry of fear is awesome, scary, intense and has a unique, interesting story. You should try Afraid of Monsters as well (prequel to cry of fear i think).
I can't play this game for too long it really does get me runing for the Ctrl+Alt+Del... I just cant stand the jump scares! lol
first time when u playing its scary so muuuch. But on the second time its just still creepy :D because of atmosphere
this game is not only jump scary, its one that makes you think actively, feel like you actually IN the game, and has a great and twisted story line. youll definitely see its worth the cost
Agrees with Austin here. but the scariest thing is the waiting for Outlast 2....
It's not the jump scares that get me. It's the horrible anticipation of them!
very scary yes and very well made. i also say 9/10
it is a cool game but it is very short and we can't use weapons
If you've had no experience with horror games, it'll be very scary through your first playthrough, second and maybe your third. If you've have lots of experience with horror games, it'll be scary only on your first try.

Trust me, I'v racked up about 35 hours on Outlast simply by doing speed runs of it; my fastest time so far (excluding loading/cutscene times) is 58 minutes and 10 seconds. The first time I played it, it took me about 5-6 hours to finish it.
