Is there more a story behind the cards

Like is the game really about cards or is there something more insidious lurking beneath the surface that slowly reveals itself the longer you play?

The first one. This isn't Inscryption. Balatro doesn't have any discernible story aspect.

Nope. Nothing of that nature. No story content at all. This is just a game about setting up a strategy to earn as many points as possible.

Some people do (understandably) get paranoid about the game. And the dev is kind of unhappy. So there is that metanarrative. It says something about the pervasiveness and addictive nature of videogames, yes?

exactly what i wanted to say XD i don't see what about this game would give anyone the idea there was any real story, unless they were spoiled by and projecting inscryption (which is a great game that i love a whole bunch) onto it just because it is also cards.
