Is there a chance that the developer will add multiplayer to the game? For example, how I see it: a competitive mode with a ranking system. A 1vs1 game where you have to score more points than your opponent (up to 8 ante, or until one of the players is eliminated).

Have there been any insights about multiplayer yet?

I think that adding multiplayer will increase the replayability of the game and keep those players who have already collected all the decks, jokers, etc...

Weird that more people aren't talking about this. A 1v1 or 1v4 mode would be perfect for this game. Everyone fights to set the highest score, the winners move onto the shop and then the next round etc. etc. It's not NEEDED necessarily but it's a VERY good and fun idea

This. It's not worth the massive hassle it would be to implement all the network stuff and entirely new interface when the game's longevity would benefit so much more from additional single player content. If Jimbo is gonna continue to work on this game long term I'd take a hundred single player DLCs before a matchmaking system. Just play with a friend on the same seed on video chat or something.
if they ever do add balatro multiplayer, i would love if tarot cards can be use offensively to mess with the other guys run.

Actual poker is a multiplayer game. The fact that they stripped out everything that would otherwise have involved another player is why this feels unlikely.

the multiplayer mod from V-rtualized is doing excact that, you battle the boss blind for the highest score with a friend. player with lowest score loses 1 life. you can set the ammount of lifes and you can change a lot of settings , and one is that both players use the same or diffrent seed.

agree. i see absolutely zero reason for this game to be multiplayer.

Also how would the multiplayer work exactly? Would you need to each select a hand to play and then confirm and then the game would trigger both hands side by side at the same time? What if one of you wanted to discard something and one of you wanted to play a hand? Do you need to make shop purchases at the same time? Are you going to be constantly waiting for the other player to make decisions so that you can advance? Because if you weren't playing in sync one player could wait and watch the other player reroll a shop and decide if they think it's worth it and essentially cheat. Or players could watch each other discard to see what cards are next in the deck. Or if you aren't allowed to see exactly what your opponent is doing, then what is the point of "multiplayer"?

Best case scenario it's the exact same as just having two people independently play the same seed but it's excruciatingly slow. Worst case scenario people can actively cheat and see the future by waiting for the other player to move first resulting in a terrible game where the optimal play is always to wait for the other person to act and no one ever does anything.

Honestly, Balatro could work pretty well in a Tetris 99 kind of format. Everyone gets the same seed and is on a timer. Clearing an ante (or maybe just a blind) would extend your timer and you could target other players and reduce their timers whenever you beat antes or score really big hands. Last person standing wins.
