stupid question probably but-
is it possible to pass ante 12 WITHOUT relying on retriggering jokers and red seal steel (or king/baron) effects? has anyone ever done it?

Possible? Yes, absolutely. Easy? No. It generally requires that you have some scaling X mult jokers that are already quite high and a very high hand level.
You could easily do it on plasma deck by getting about 2,000 chips (ante 12 big blind would be 1.2 mil with plasma's x2 blind size, and 1,000 x 1,000 would be 1 mil). You could easily achieve this with wee joker and something like hack/seltzer/hanging chad, but would still be possible without retriggers at any point in the run with copy effects and planets more than halving the required chip amount when combined.

wait what do you mean the ante 12 big blind is only 1.2 million? i thought ante 11 was 28 million! is plasma deck really that easy? (tho maybe that was cuz i was on a higher stake, it still seems crazy that it would be THAT different)

My bad, misread 1.2 billion as 1.2 million on the wiki. To beat ante 12 without retriggers you'd probably need a couple absurd Xmult scalers like hologram or constellation along with glass and steel. Definitely possible, but not the easiest.
you don't need any retriggers but you do need x multipliers (x1.0+ jokers); and don't forget to organise jokers so that any +chip and + mult are always at the most left and to the right of them x mult; steel cards help a lot too

i managed to get TO ante 12 with just a very high hand (straight flush level 25+, over a thousand base chips and hundred base mult) and 3 powerful xmult jokers (the ones that get better with each planet card used, with each card added to deck, and the final hand of round one), averaging about 80mill points each round, but that is WAY not enough to PASS ante 12, and i don't see how you could do it without obscene retriggers.

It's very possible with deckfixing and 5 Xmult jokers. Without polychrome/steel/red seal a base mult of 50 along with a combined x32256 barely one-shots without plasma deck. 5 glass cards, x4 constellation, x4 hologram, the family, cavendish, and drivers license will two-shot without plasma, though incorporating an extra x2 such as scaling constellation to x8 or using an ectoplasm shouldn't be too hard. I might try and see if I can do it without plasma.

guess i just needed a little bit more luck to get more good xmult jokers then. never saw any others, but was hoping for the steel joker or driver's licence. definitely would have worked with my deck of over 70 cards XD

Update: did it second try (first attempt was too greedy and died ante 2 with polychrome family and nothing else, completely my fault).
Found an early blueprint, which I hexed and ankh'ed quickly. Found the hologram next ante along with magic trick, carrying the run. I didn't get the second brainstorm until ante 12, but I was scoring well above the requirement anyways. I also was able to do this without using steel/polychrome cards at any point in the run.

damn blueprint AND hex and ankh that early? VERY lucky! what if you didn't have all that glass tho...

Without the glass the score should be 2,944,850,921.6 which is still barely enough to scrape by. Also, ankh was partially why I chose to play on ghost deck, with ectoplasm as the main reason (although as you can see I have an empty joker slot I didn't use). I chose to sell my invisible joker during ante 12 and sold my mail-in-rebate and naturally negative luchador to guarantee a good outcome.

exponents are crazy strong it seems... in addition to being hard for me to wrap my non-math-oriented head around.

but that's still great luck... i often don't see blueprint or brainstorm at all, and/or only see one or two xmult jokers that don't even scale over time, even with having the economy for a lot of rerolls... not to say you aren't smart to have played it well of course, but it definitely takes luck, not JUST skill.

thanks for testing it out and sharing pics!

i finally did it myself, not a single red seal or specifically retriggering joker, and i never even played my glass! single five-of-a-kind hand gets me billions of chips because of the blueprint/brainstorm retriggering triboulet's x2.

proooobably not possible without ANY retriggering (so no blueprint or brainstorm either) but i'm at least happy to see i don't need to get the perfect baron/mime red seal steel king setup i usually see in order to win.

and for the record, i am well aware this is one of the worst decks to try for this with, i'm just screwing around while i work on clearing all stakes on all decks.
