I am sure there are tons of convincing reasons why this particular name fits the Process-controlling device. Maybe read up on transistors on wikipedia!
Perhaps worthy of note is the triangle symbol that both Red and Mr. Nobody wear on their clothes, which is the circuit diagram notation for a transistor.
My guess is that the Transistor, on a metaphorical level, works as an actual transistor with regard to the Process - its user being the second input, which modulates and shapes the much more powerful current that runs through it.
