Remove/destroy Storage Box?
I'm talking about the small/non-colony "Storage Box", not the big "Storage" for your colony. Basically a chest. Kind of looks like a cooler.

In the item description, it says "This item can only be placed once and cannot be picked up again!" and the only available action when you mouseover is loot.

I'm guessing, given this, that once you place one, it stays there forever and ever.

Just asking in case I'm wrong... seems weird that you wouldn't be able to get rid of it. I get that you can't "get it back", but you should at least be able to destroy it. What happens if you place it in the wrong spot?

Yeah, makes me really happy that I was only messing around in Build mode instead of my "proper" game in Story mode...

This design is to avoid extra rooms for the inventory, which will lead to some unexpected bugs. We'd have a tweak on the mouseover tips though.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you mean by "extra rooms for the inventory". Could you clarify, please?

Yeah yeah, thread necro, next time complain that I don't use the thread search feature.

Just wanted to say how amazingly pleased I am that I now have to redesign my entire base around the freaking stealth indestructo-box that I was using to hold base-building supplies. How has this not been addressed in over two years?

Additionally, they only face one direction. Flip it however you want, they drop one way and that's it. Still, it's good for storing meat and dirt, which will fill up your inventory fast. I think that it the only real purpose of these boxes- when you have a couple pages of meat and a couple of dirt, plus a couple pages of mats, a page of parts, a page of trophies, you're closing to maxing your inventory and losing future items. You can't store meat in your colony storage because the replicator will automatically turn it into fat.

I wish PE had persistent volumetrics. I think it would correct generally all of the inventory issues, make the game more immersive, and also give storage units like the box a whole new dimension of usefulness.

Gotcha. When building the base and needing the temporary storage, dig up a hole in the ground and put it there so when I don't want it anymore, I can fill it up with voxels so it won't offend my eyes.

In MP mode, it is used usually 2 different ways. First, people will set up a "share box" site at the start towns. People will unload scripts and duplicate items that they don't need to share with new people coming on.

Second, you can have a spot in your colony where you set up a box to share and pass things to people visiting your colony. The Iron Box is not restricted to the colony owner, so it is a good resource for sharing items in MP mode.

It is definitely not something that you want to randomly place. It is a permanent fixture until the server is reset.

There is a third use. If you know what you are doing, you can "hide" the boxes for emergency storage to keep a supply of items in case your colony is attacked and destroyed. This would need to be a location you can find, that other people would not think to look, preferably still in an accessible spot. Useful items: replacement colony equipment, extra set of weapons, armor, accessories for your character (in case of death and loss of equipment). These can be kept in colony storage, but as I said, if you lose your colony storage and die (say from pvp) and lose your gear, it is nice to have a stash somewhere that only you know about.

Also, since anyone can access it: if your character somehow becomes glitched and unavailable, you can access that pesky iron box with any new character and be ready to roll again with a new toon.
