No one's complaining about the Mastery/Unlocks system?
Bought the game in the current sales, and all the playtime you see in my account is dedicated to the first level alone (Paris). Right now I am at 17 Mastery level and I've amassed about a handful of SMGs.

What SMGs have to do anything? In a Hitman game? Why is there a XP system here at all? :47_thumb_down:

If they make a Season 2 (and probably they are), then they should go back to Blood Money's system.
The challenges unlocked here should reward you with cash which you can spend on weapons, new gears, upgrades, disguises, bribe people/media/police depending on notoriety, bribe to start at a designated location and all that good stuff.

That aside, this game really beats Blood Money at level design and replayability.

It has SMGs so people don't ask "Why doesn't this have SMGs?"
There's an XP system because grinding for money is too easy in Blood Money.
You don't even need any unlocks unless they're a requirement for a challenge, a custom contract or an escalation. A screwdriver is enough if you're not happy with the fiber wire.

i agree the mastery system makes no sense, it would probably be better if you unlocked starting locations etc if you actually get to them in a completed attempt but as Tim says there is nothing thats unlocked thats essential to completing any objectives that i've seen so far (like you i've only done paris and had a brief look at italy)

I thought SMGs in GTA 5 was kind of a joke, cause I couldn't find any differences between AR and SMG, and SMG didn't feel like SMG. On the contrary, SMG in Hitman has bad recoil, but it's specially superior for close combat and clearing a small room without noise, which are close to distinctive elements of SMG. Every weapon in this game has their unique features with clear pros and cons. You could try various weapons, or use a specific weapon which fits your style.

I guess weapons like a silenced pistol and a customisable sniper rifle are enough for Hitman.
Agree, unlock system is stupid.
The worst thing about it is they have you complete "challenges", aka "screw creativity, play the game our way".
And the worst thing about challenges? They give away pretty much everything you can do, depriving you of finding out for yourself.

Bottomline, you want the sniper rifle? Yes? Then let us spoil the game for you.

I'd prefer some sort of currency system that lets me choose the unlocks I want.
There should be SMGs! And other guns. But with that also frigin bulletproof vest!

I would love start game in bulletproof vest, guards would take notice extremely quickly so shooting would start pretty much right away. I would just go punisher style to my target blasting anyone hostile running my way. Then make a lil detour to smuggle spot where I would have extra vest.

This is Agent 47 I know! ... Sometimes! :D Its sandbox! Thats whats great about it. Options. And adding option to go gun blazing (even if it would still net you no points) is MUST! I hope they´ll add it in Season 2.

EHM on topic...I quite like mastery system :D Well in episode 2 unlocks felt better too!

On the tutorial missions, I tried to do every challenge, did each one multiple times. Eventually, I got burned out. Couldn't figure out how to do the 4th escalation of the boat, so I gave up and did the story. After Paris, I stopped browsing the challenge and discovery section and just jumped in blind. Worked out pretty well. I got pleasantly surprised, and explored like mad to find all kinds of neat things scattered all over.

Now that I finished, I am now going through each map one by one to complete them. Only just now did I find the vampire suit in paris and am going to complete those before going to the escalations.

Worked out well doing it this way, too, as I got sick of being kicked back to the main menu and having the "suggested" panel on the main menu constantly tell me to play maps that it didn't want me to play "You should complete XXXX story mission before you try this!" THEN DON'T RECOMMEND IT TO ME ON THE MENU!

I don't really hate the XP ssytem in this game. You can unlock challenges and discoveries by saving before a kill, experiencing it, then loading to do another different one (dropping the light rig in Paris versus just shooting him). I got capped on XP for Paris about 3/4 of the way through the list, so everything felt like it unlocked quickly for me.

Its to make sure you actually explore the levels and try out different things to achieve your goals. You get rewarded by trying to do different things. Not that hard to figure out.

What I like the most about the unlock system now is this:

"All unlockable items that are earned when connected to the game's servers, are now also saved to an 'offline profile', meaning that they can be used when in Offline Mode."

It's still needed to be connected to earn them, but honestly, that is a nice compromize and all I personaly realy wanted since the begning.

Nah. That's cause you're relying on save files. Since the game doesn't have the 'Hard Mode', I always play my first runs without Opportunities/Intel/Save Files. There are some moments that I happen to run into some roaming NPCs or several guards even. It's hard to escape the 'Combat' or 'Hunted' state especially when you're stuck indoor, like the underground lab in Sapienza or the school army base in Marrakesh. So I've always smuggled the suppressed SMG for the first runs, and SMG was the most important insurance to finish the first run without fail.

As I said, suppressed SMG has decent accuracy, fire rate, and fire power in close combat. It's easy to make head shots even if the enemies are moving. It is extremely efficient for clearing 3~4 guards in the room within 5~10 seconds, so it grants you enough time to escape the room or hide in the closet without drawing more attention. Pistol is not that effective in such case.

Anyone could finish SA Suit Only with just some tools and 3 coins after several times of tries. However, I can't say the same with the first runs or the elusive targets, in which you'll face lots of unpredictable moments. I don't mean that you have to play the game with certain conditions as I played. I'm just trying to say how SMG was useful and intriguing in my case.

I find the unlock/mastery level very good. I don't think I'd have replayed the missions a single time without this incentive. I just reached L20 on Hokkaido and it's so satisfying !

As has been said, the system is designed to encourage you to do it in another way, and ultimately, when you've reached L20, you really know the mission very well.

The only previous hitman system I've known was Absolution, and seriously, no, just no. Never worked for me.

Do you guys really think 'buying' and 'unlocking' makes any differences? There are actually no differences between them. 'Buying with Money' and 'Unlocking with Exp' is basically the same process with different currencies, and both don't prevent you from choosing a specific weapon. Giving you money and letting you buy certain weapons is nothing but another unnecessary chore.

It would make difference only if the game is heavily focused on weapon development system, like Fallout 4 with Perks, but that's not the case. If the Hitman starts to focus on weapoon development system... well, it'll be hard to call it Hitman.

Especially when you're spending leftover money on things you consider useless, because there's nothing else you can do or buy with it.

We are not complaining because we never bought this drm riddled, unfinished product in the first place.
