DX12 support has been very hit and miss in terms of performance gain. There doesn't seem to be any real improvement to the visuals from enabling it and DX11 is overall more stable and performant.
However if you're using nvidia don't even bother it'll just wreck the stability of the game with no benefits.
This...heavily depends on your system. On mine (AMD CPU + GPU) DX11 is a slideshow with lots of stuttering. DX12, however, runs perfect with everything on max, obtaining over 30FPS at nearly all times.
So if you're having any performance issues DX12 is very much worth a try.
