Does it run when you click the aces.exe file in the War Thunder directory? Can you see aces.exe running in Task Manager?

Yes, it will open when i run it from there, strange.

*** attention *** technical stuff incoming ^^ feel free to ignore...

strange ?! yes and no ^^ i assume it's related to the way the aces.exe is getting started by the launcher. i'm no coder so i dont really understand it but instead of running the aces.exe directly the launcher is calling the Windows command prompt (cmd.exe) and i guess this is not working correctly on some systems.

6.74 [D] Shell execute "cmd" /c start win64\aces.exe -forcestart
(quoted from a launcher log}

i wouldn't be surprised that if you (or any affected player) open a command prompt in the War Thunder main game directory and use the "start win64\aces.exe -forcestart" command it wont run either... or maybe it's related to cmd itself ?!

at least one player reported that he could not open a command prompt (cmd.exe) on his system due to some errors on his operating system... once he repaired his system everything went back to normal.

as far as i know (depeding on the configuration of the system ofc) there is also a chance that running cmd(.exe) wont open a standard command prompt but the Windows Powershell and this one may behave different from the standard command prompt as well.

if you are up for it you could give it a try on your own ofc.
open a command prompt (press Win+R and enter cmd in the command line), in the command prompt window navigate to the War Thunder game directory (by using the change directory (cd) command) and enter

start win64\aces.exe -forcestart

maybe you'll get some sort of error message... maybe opening a command prompt does not work at all (like for the above mentioned player) ?!

What relliK said. :)

I just really wish i could open this game through steam and not in the folders. Its been working fine for years and now after recently re installing the game it doesnt.

I saw a suggestion where you use a program to do a clean wipe of all GPU driver stuff, but that didn't work either.

sorry guys the game works with aces.exe in war thunder directory but you're not running game on steam.. you don't get the hours of game counted and you cannot shift+TAB to chat with friends or navigate in steam broswer :( is there another way??

you could try forcing the launcher to run the 32bit client (i dont know if this helps though =/)

open the config.blk in the ..\War Thunder\ main game directory with any text editor and look for the following line (prettty much at the top)

clientBitType:t="auto"

change this to

clientBitType:t="32bit"

save & exit... then try to run the game from Steam again... no promises as i said ^^

^ Unfortunately that didn't work, but thanks anyway.

Its not often i have an issue with a game i can't figure out. This is very frustrating and i can't believe an official fix isn't out yet.

it's most likely because a) very vew players are affected and b) the reason for this issue is very hard (almost impossible) to track down because there are no error messages / codes either from the operating system nor in the launcher / game logs.

i guess for the devs to have a chance to fix this they first need to get their hands on an affected system (otherwise this is just theoretic or basically fishing in muddy waters =/). if they cannot replicate the issue (reliably) i dont know how they would be able to fix it (unless they are lucky).

the issue in itself does not seem to make sense... one player may have this issue while another one with almost the same system does not. or one day it's working just fine for one player and the next day it does not anymore !?

That's a good point, looks like ill just have to play without steam features.

I've still been looking into this and did some stuff. It was default trying to start 32bit so i changed it to auto and did a force command.still not working
