strange ?! yes and no ^^ i assume it's related to the way the aces.exe is getting started by the launcher. i'm no coder so i dont really understand it but instead of running the aces.exe directly the launcher is calling the Windows command prompt (cmd.exe) and i guess this is not working correctly on some systems.
i wouldn't be surprised that if you (or any affected player) open a command prompt in the War Thunder main game directory and use the "start win64\aces.exe -forcestart" command it wont run either... or maybe it's related to cmd itself ?!
at least one player reported that he could not open a command prompt (cmd.exe) on his system due to some errors on his operating system... once he repaired his system everything went back to normal.
as far as i know (depeding on the configuration of the system ofc) there is also a chance that running cmd(.exe) wont open a standard command prompt but the Windows Powershell and this one may behave different from the standard command prompt as well.
if you are up for it you could give it a try on your own ofc.
open a command prompt (press Win+R and enter cmd in the command line), in the command prompt window navigate to the War Thunder game directory (by using the change directory (cd) command) and enter
start win64\aces.exe -forcestart
maybe you'll get some sort of error message... maybe opening a command prompt does not work at all (like for the above mentioned player) ?!
I saw a suggestion where you use a program to do a clean wipe of all GPU driver stuff, but that didn't work either.
open the config.blk in the ..\War Thunder\ main game directory with any text editor and look for the following line (prettty much at the top)
clientBitType:t="auto"
change this to
clientBitType:t="32bit"
save & exit... then try to run the game from Steam again... no promises as i said ^^
Its not often i have an issue with a game i can't figure out. This is very frustrating and i can't believe an official fix isn't out yet.
i guess for the devs to have a chance to fix this they first need to get their hands on an affected system (otherwise this is just theoretic or basically fishing in muddy waters =/). if they cannot replicate the issue (reliably) i dont know how they would be able to fix it (unless they are lucky).
the issue in itself does not seem to make sense... one player may have this issue while another one with almost the same system does not. or one day it's working just fine for one player and the next day it does not anymore !?

its fixed now.
smh.
Well i wont be doing that! Not for this game..
