Joystick controls...wtf? I'm out..for now.
I was so frustrated trying to control the plane, in particular trying to aim that I've punched and broke my X52 pov hat button, and that even before having tried the real game but in the initial tutorial. After trying and trying again, changed settings and Joystick controls sensibility I just rage quitted, and I don't think I will be backplaying until they have fix the controls that are definitely broke.

Hmm...sry for U, but my Joystick works fine...it's the cheapest Thrustmaster HOTAS. But maybe we have different Expectations. GL
Sixty3 31 AGO 2013 a las 9:52
Well, since its a free Game I had limited expectations, however, this game is an arcade filght simulator and I was expecting that at last the controls were accurate at best since being able to control your plane is paramount in this type of simulation. Not being able to do so is frustrating and takes out all the fun of playing the game for me. Just my 2 cent, I'm glad you are enjoy your game. I tried also with a CH Fighterstick with the same results. I play also games like Falcon BMS, DCS: A-10C Warthog, Flaming Cliffs, FSX and the previous Wings Of Prey without this issue.

from what i heard joystick control just doesnt fly well in arcade
hb and frb should be fine though
but yeh gaijin has noted that joystick opti has yet to come

I had to go to mouse control in arcade mode, it's like idiot proof easy when compared sadly. First flight using it I shot down I think 2-3 planes in my D-5 Stuka, it was like retardedly easy.

I can say "GOD" no wonder why I was getting my butt handed to me so easily at times.

I play with the Xbox 360 controller and it can be tough to get a good shot at enemy players but it can be done. I have a flight-stick but I don't use it much. I haven't tried mouse control and I may give that a shot but I would think a flight-stick would be the best option.

Not in arcade mode. Mouse controls are insanely OVER powered on this game. Arcade mode Mouse controls some how magically make aircraft more responsive, and I mean in weird crazy ways. Mouse Aim control, which is the first control option. The second one is a blend of keyboard/joystick/mouse, oddly you can use all mouse on it but it's less responsive than Mouse Aim Option to the Left of it. I dunno why but it is...

Only bad part about mouse controls it just feels so... fake... the Mouse Aiming aircraft behave in weird unexpected aways, like playing starfox 64. lol

A flying game that doesn't support my Hotas X (it's sitting in a box while I play with mouse and keyboard) really isn't a flying game at all.
Sixty3 31 AGO 2013 a las 13:28
I just gave up on the Stick/throttle I'm playing now with mouse and keyboard, but at last I have a chance to take down a plane or two once in a while.

Same here I just bought a Hotas X for this game and after 3 days of trying I put it back in the box and went back to my mouse.

joysticks are mostly used in historic battles and full real battles
you wont have much of an advantage in arcade battles with them

ok bud heres the stuff i have accumulated about the game so far. and I just happen to be useing the saitek x52 joystick also. (note: not pro version)

setup your controls anyway you want :)

but the settings should make the game fun / playable for you

information I found on the internet. it worked great for my system. windows 7 64 bit system

Few weeks ago I bought my X52 and became obsessed with so called Clutch button that I cannot map anywhere. I decided to correct the situation.
There is two way to make it work 1)kill the drivers and SST and you can use it, but you lose the possibility to program your stick.
2) you can move the clutch button somewhere else for example on RESET key :-)
More than that you don't loose your clutch functionality (for the maniacs that used to switch profiles while in game) nor reset.
BE ADVISED THAT WHATEVER YOU DO, YOU DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK
I did NOT perform extensive tests of that solution, but it works very good for me.

Environment: SST and drivers (4.3.3.2000 ? 5.0.0.2000 respectively), OS: Windows 2003 Server

so here are steps to follow:
i)open registry (start>run>regedit [press OK])
ii)search for "AviemoreCltBtn" without quotes with the following parameters:
"search for value" and "match the whole string only".
iii)By default the values are:
in decimal: 30 or hexadecimal:1e
change it to
in decimal: 29 or hexadecimal:1d
!!!you may find multiple instances, so do it for every one!!!
iv)Close the registry, unplug from USB and plug back the stick.
You are done. Now the clutch button is moved to RESET and "i button" is free to be assigned. I use it in Ventrilo as push-to-talk button.

I hope you'll find it useful :-)

I've only played HB and I use a Thrustmaster Pro. My question is whether or not there is advantage in HB for mouse and keyboard players as well.
