Other than that, try spending some crew points on Weapon Maintainence, or as above, it could just be a bug.
You may also want to look into your weapons maitance skill.
Finally i can enjoy this exellent game....and everything sems so much easier now i can actually shoot at people. I have played so many games with effectively one handed tied behind my back that now i am flying like i am in a F15 and not a Hurricane. For some reason x box controller doesnt target very well either? Mouse is much more precise.
So a cautionary tale.....put the x box controller down....it seems to be bugged and pick up the mouse :)

also boost your crew stats hmmm the last on the bottom on ground crew upgrades its called weapon maintenance i think this helps with the gun jamming
