Yes it is but if you want the P-51D-5 you have to pay. You get limited stuff for free and I would really stay away if your looking for a sim. It's a good arcade play game but even the "sim" mode just has a bare minimum of true sim elements. I still cannot understand why in a Tempest at 8,000 ft I get bested in performance.

No, not yet. It is, however, "pay to compete". Unless you want to grind sucky planes for hundreds of hours.

vs. the alternative, pay upfront or never try? I'll take F2P tyvm. good game, not realistic as stated but still fun.

Sorry, but WoT is not pay to win. Why do you think it is?
I remember a patch a few months ago where they significantly increased the cost of buying and repairing planes in WT. It was so bad that you had to grind very, very slowly up the tree with a free account. I am glad that they fixed this but we do not know what they plan for the future ...

No, not yet. It is, however, "pay to compete". Unless you want to grind sucky planes for hundreds of hours.

The following comes from experience in FRB's flying tier 8-11 US aircraft.

War Thunder is not pay2compete whatsoever all. You can be in a a plane less superior than your opponent and outfly him if you posess the ability to. You obtain 95% in-game aircraft with in-game currency which you gain by flying sorties.

The handful of "premium planes" which you can buy with real money offer an advantage in no way, shape, or form as the higher the tier of the plane, the higher the tier of enemy aircraft you will be pitted up against. With this being said, WT's business model is one of pay2play_against_other_pilots_flying_the_same_quality_aircraft_as_you. Yeah, you can buy that tier 11 Spitfire, but do you harness the proper skill to fly against your enemies flying in machines of comparable level? Are you, your premium tier 11 plane, and your 2 hours of experience capable of taking down your enemy in a tier 9 plane with 100 flight hours?

The only things which real currency proves advantageous are upgrading your pilot, crew, and aircraft. These are hardly game breaking and hold absolutely no weight against a pilot that knows his manuevers and possesses exceptional situational awareness.

The only thing which will help you win is knowledge. Know what plane excels with what strategy, know when to dive down for an attack, and know when to incorporate the appropriate manuever to keep the advantage or lose the disadvantage.

You can still be the victim of very intense scenarios even if you haven't been "grind(ing)" sucky planes for hundreds of hours. The only reason you should be grinding is so you can finally get that one plane you've dreamt about as a wee-little boy. Otherwise, stating that you have to grind to eventually have fun just goes to show how the call-of-duty-max-level-prestiged plague has ruined the gaming community which exists today.

The bottom line is this: If you are not having fun with learning how to fly, gradually getting better, and working towards your dream plane whilst flying a myriad of lower level planes which offer nearly, if not equally, as much joy as your high-end plane, then this game isn't for you.

Lol. premium is not needed in Warthunder. there isnt any pay to win planes. and grinding to 200K is achieveable in a day.

glad to know i am not the only one that thinks this
every game that has multiplayer and level grinding is plagued with people that have no patience since they were born in the we want it now era
they don't know what it is to work for something since they get it with in minutes of wanting it

Well said Duece.

buying premium plane earlier and you can use a tier 15plane like dora pack and you in level 3 or 4 in the country airforce gives you a huge problem because only 1 plane of higher tier influences in match search puting you playing agaisnt higher tier planes when you only get one and the rest is lower tier you dont have a chance!IM level 10 germany i have the dora pack wich is tier15 plane i only use that when reaching atleast level 13 or 14 it was a mistake using dora when i was in lower tiers...
Burnalot87 22 out. 2013 às 12:35
It's already mentioned but ill just say it as well.
Sure, premium can give you an early advantage by skipping a bit forward from the lower tiers... However, you cannot buy hands on experience/knowhow that you need in the higher tiers. It's a diffrent ball game past tier 10-12 and only gametime and frustration will teach that (wich I find to be part of the charm of this game). Even with the best upgrades and fully trained crews wont save you from more seasoned players that do more than just fly in circles.
Just remember, stay calm, do your best and sure they can 1 shot you, but you can do the same to them. :)

Then there is full and historical battle modes wich is another matter compared to arcade mode. No ammount of premium will assure kills or wins there.
