If it is a premium, yes, and you will grind rank 1 tanks very quickly as well as rank 2 all the way up to rank 7 tanks (and heli's as well if you want to convert all ground vehicle research to heli research which is a toggle you will have access to when you buy the rank 6 tank you have in mind or buy/unlock a rank 5 or higher vehicle in any tech tree).

If it is not premium and is instead something else, event, tech tree or squadron, you will actually be penalized for trying to grind rank 1 with a rank 6, the penalty will go away if you research rank 5-6-7 tanks and will exist if you try to research rank 1-2-3-4-8 tanks so be careful if you were planning on getting a non-premium vehicle. This applies to every non premium, so for Non's you will be fine grinding 1 rank above or below and be penalized if you grind 2 or more ranks above or below, premiums will only be penalized for vehicles that are 2 or more ranks above NOT below, they get a pass for vehicles below them.
