Warthunder has a major problem
Vehicles in close proximity are not rendering all the time. I assume WT is using code that renders other players on screen based on proximity and possibly the direction you're looking. Most games do something like that so your CPU isn't constantly hammered.

I've been killed plenty of times in ground RB by players who shot me from a direction I was looking at but I never saw them and only then saw them in the kill cam. I attributed it to me just sucking. However, today I saw two players from the opposing team appear out of thin air and slide sideways into place right in front of me. I don't know if I rendered for them or not as they didn't shoot at me right away but I was hidden behind some crates so only my turret would have been visible.

I have noticed for awhile that while flying, ground vehicles will slide around and go into terrain while I'm looking at them if I'm far enough away. So that is definitely wonky. It wasn't a big deal because I still knew about where they were. But if players are not rendering correctly and shooting you on the ground while effectively invisible to you then that isn't good at all.

/edit: My ping when this happened was around 20 and my PL was 0%.

It is an issue to do with their anticheat setting that make it so if an object (not matter how small) is between you and another person their tank does not render because you are not suppose to see them.

This is stupid for many reason the first is that a small rock or fence can cause the nonrendering. Another reason is it does not apply to both players. Also if this works how come you can do a 3rd person peak around corners.

I have brought up these concerns dozens of times and Gaijin ignores it completely and my posts typically only get a few people chiming in to support me asking Gaijin to change this.

The culling you are talking about has been around for many years and is far from stupid, it just needs tuning

It exists because there is no reason you should know about a tank on the other side of the city so having data about it in a players client, even if not accessible during normal play opens up much more avenues to cheating. A wall hack doesn’t work if your game client doesn’t know the tank exists in the first place

The tuning and bugs come in most likely due to how computationally expensive ray tracing is, there is reason real time ray tracing is such an advertised feature of modern gpus, but it still tanks performance when turned on. So calculating exactly what you can and can’t see at any time is very much in need of work

Just throwing it out entirely, not a chance

If it comes down to its current state or not existing I would chose it to not exist. This is a feature that if they want to fine tune it they should be testing it on the the test server to get it right before implementing it on the main server. It has been completely broken and random for many years.

Oh, I thought it was only me, and that is because I am having real connection issues. My ISP is sending a technician over today. Yes, I have had encountered enemy vehicles that didn't seem to have rendered. It was suddenly just there after my vehicle was destroyed and I was hiding behind a corner waiting. The enemy vehicle rendered after it destroyed mine. :steamsad:

I can see that being the case based on where I was but if I had gone to my turret "snipe" mode I had full visibility of the area in front of me. Not that it means your wrong if the code says "Hey, object in front of my hull, that means I can't see the tank 10 meters away."

Pretty dumb if that's the case. As every WT veteran would agree, if you can see the other player in third person, even slewing over objects or peeking around corners, the other player should render.

I don’t expect the server version of warthunder attempts to render all players points of view simultaneously, it’s probably not rendered in the traditional sense at all. It’s likely just using the rendering pipeline to test specific pixels to over simplify it

Games are all about strategic use of good enough solutions where real physics just takes far too much time and processing power

that happened to me the other day, I got killed by an abrams that was right in front of me but never rendered for some reason

I actually haven't noticed this, I play with like 280 ping all the time on the NA server but yeah don't really recall completely invisible tanks being an issue, I am not saying it's not an issue just that I don't have experience with it.

To my friend who is posting sent as the name of Santa Claus. I have videos of my being a veteran of this issue. And then getting completely banned from War Thunder. Just for being honest and showing the videos of where the time I was in War Thunder and just trying to enjoy it. It's like you can see in a German map the Berlin map. The tank is upside down driving in the sky. This is not a lie it really happened. Just an example of what really happened in my past experience. I'm a veteran player for quite some time. And I've been around since War Thunder just started was brand new to say.

The upside down tanks flying was a bug specifically with the British Churchill and not only has no relation whatsoever with the feature the OP is discussing but is long since fixed

I am genuinely at a loss what you are trying to convey here, if you copped a ban you did something to earn it and derailing this thread to talk about it and another unrelated bug is not doing much to convince anyone of your ability to follow even the most basic rules and etiquette

I mean this isn't a minor bug. This completely derails the game. What is the point of using any type of strategy when your foe is invisible? We might as well just play a dice rolling simulator and let that determine SL and RP.

you evidently have no idea what strategy and tactics are, in real life training, off the wall situations like being attacked by ghosts are used to evaluate peoples ability to think outside the box. There are strategies and tactics for everything including opponents that are invisible and intangible

equating this to being nothing but random chance speaks more to your own failure as anything but a blunt instrument, it takes a trivial amount of extra care looking around at all angles to account for this bug if you even notice it day to day at all

always love the tanks that drive over flat terrain and are constantly flickering in and out of existance
CaptainSpacetime Nov 15, 2023 @ 11:43pm
If you got your graphics set real low this can happen. Like I think tree render distance maybe? A tank is hidden by a "tree" that you set your graphics so low you can't see.

Solution is don't try to pull ULQ cheese tactics, turn up your graphic bud
