Don't.
The starting ranks (there are no tiers in WT) are the easiest.
And converting "free" RP to "normal" RP is VERY costly.
And this ISN'T a race to the top (ranks).
Actually the top ranks AREN'T as enjoyable as the lower ones.
Enjoy the ride (if you can).
But the higher ranks DON'T come with more enjoyment (for most).
It isn't.
WT is proudly dying since 2012.
It probably will die at least 10 years more. :-)
Like Lunovus said, don't waste money on EXP. If you want to get faster results either get premium time or a T3 premium vehicle for the bonuses (after playing a few matches to get the hang of it)
Its not gonna die any time soon, so dont worry about it theres no other developer who dares to make a similar game, they have no time to catch up first they need beat war thunder in mechanics realism and graphics thats for the easy part its not hard to do but the hard stuff comes now first you have to create all tanks from ww2 for multiple nations theres quite some C&P but they still have to go trough many variants but thats not it next on they have to do the same for planes and this is much harder and then ships, possibly even submarine or aircraft carriers which require to write a good AI for the planes you can start but thats already too technical lets stay with the easy stuff next on they need helicopters now they can make the jump from ww2 to cold war the next line of research begins once again for all vehicle classes and then the late cold war and early modern stuff we havent even started with the maps yet those need to be made too and they have to be better, everything has to be better to make the veterans switch from WT to the new game, but thats not happening there will NEVER be an alternate war thunder, no one would go trough all of this at once.
You have absolutely no concerns about War Thunder going away any time soon. While there's plenty of issues with it, it's still a relatively enjoyable game for many.
I would recommend simply playing the game. If you try to buy your way to higher tier levels, you will have a much worse experience than you would've progressing naturally through a given tech tree due to a multitude of factors that generally revolve around "Skill Issue" and "Knowledge Issue."
War Thunder has a steep learning curve and jumping straight into higher tier levels is the equivalent to being a fish in a barrel for someone that doesn't know what they're doing.
I may also recommend waiting until the end of October for Gaijin's Anniversary sale where you can get the most bang for your buck, especially on Premium Account time.
Where did you get this idea?
The game has only gotten more popular.

It will only be around as long as it makes the Developers money...
It's a business... when the money stops coming in... and servers cost money to maintain... there won't be a profit and the Developers will shut down the servers.
Go look at the history of Heroes & Generals... that's what happened there...
