"Airplanes can fly with critical damage, even without half a wing."
So when a fighter shot the outer half of my right bomber wing off and I crashed down to earth, that's a "rare exception"?

what do you want people to say to you or about this?

Ideally, I'd like to know if there's more to trying to fly with 1 1/2 wings than just holding an arrow key, respectively.
well using flaps has a chance to level out the plane for you...heck use landing flaps if you have to and it'll definately level you out however with consequences... speed loss
wait.....like this?!?!?! dayyum
um ok....then....
huh
i mean you can still fly...but your not going to be very useful...unless of course someone happens to stay in front of you enough to shoot it.

ive done it, and ive flown in circles with tons of damage an unable to do anything but fly in a gimped circle and shoot anyone who flew across my front end.

needless to say i ended up crashing....but yeah...you CAN fly with massive damage...its just not going to last very long and your better off in arcade battles just holding J and leaving to get on another plane you can be productive in.
I kinda hoped that using mouse controls would also automatically adjust the aircraft's trim for you ... guess not :/
Usually with half a wing I'll get the message that I'll leave my aircraft in a couple seconds.

I've managed to land & repair almost completely black planes already, but nothing where half a wing was missing.
I always laugh a little when I see that message on the loading screen. I couldnt count the number of times ive lost just the very tip of 1 of my 4 wings on my I-153. a good 90% of my total wing area will be intact, but itll kick me out of the plane.

They can fly...into the ground.
In some places its even worst. In RB. If you get set on fire, it says "Aircraft burnt up" and kicks you out of your plane instead of letting you fight the fire...

lol i just played a game and a peashooter (not the 12.7mm one) made a hole in my p36c's left wing and plane blew into flames

No, the, "rare exception" is your plane being able to fly without half a wing, as it should be.

Very, very much this. When you sustain heavy enough damage, you're just sort of wasting time in most cases by staying in the battle with that plane. It's a matter of yes, you can still fly, of course, but should you still fly? I mean, if you're near enough ground targets or someone is foolish enough to fly straight in front of you and you can maintain control, by all means keep going, but otherwise? You're probably more useful abandoning that aircraft. Sucks to say, but it's true - in most cases, suffering heavy rudder, elevator, or wing damage is basically a death, whether it's instant or not.
When they say can it means it can happen rarely, not that you can keep dogfighting like nothing happened, it takes a concerted effort to stay up.
