Sources For KV-2 Armor
Hey guys,

I've been trying to find more information about the KV series of tanks (The KV-2 ZIS6 in particular) and I found an interesting piece of information claiming the KV-2 actually had 110 mm of armor rather than the 75mm represented in the game. Does anyone know how I can fact check which is correct?

Thank you for your time,
Pho-Kii Hue In-Das

I think you mean the frontal side of the turret armor rather than the hull side one?

Did you know this website? I supposed you can read the information here better and there're more tanks info or trivial you can read here too.

It did mentioned "110 mm (4.33 in) frontal armor" in the section [Design process] but as you would know, not all plates and covers are in the same sizes, the tank would get too heavy and costly, unless it is maus or T-95 lol

I think the 110mm are meant to be the thickest side from the armor. Probably the gun mantlet.

This entire game is a Russian cope. 99% of their sources are "trust us bro" but when something needs updating for ANY OTHER NATION they demand top-tier borderline direct military references.

When you say something is wrong the game devs mock you with skill issue/side climb/etc.

To answer your question directly you can't because gaijin essentially makes up everything w.r.t. soviet vehicles.

The armor was also slopped so that you could've probably miss understood between the overall effective armor thickness rather than the actual original thickness of the plate itself?

This is probably LoS thickness, or "effective" thickness due to sloping, rounding, etc. I doubt the actual plates are that thick.

The only book that I know of in English that is about Russian heavy tanks is "IS-2 - Development, Design & Production of Stalin's War Hammer" by Peter Samsonov. It is about the IS-2 and it does not have the information that you want.

Should you want it, you can get it here:

https://blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/product/IS-2-Development-Design--Production-of-Stalins-War-Hammer-by-Peter-Samsonov/9781915453105

I have read it, it is a small thin volume. Worthwhile? Yes. :steamhappy:

Yes, this site was the source I was referencing! I understand the source could be referring to effective armor thickness on the front of the turret due to angling, but (if the model in game is correct) it doesn't appear to be angled. Is there any way to get the "schematics" of one of these tanks? Could I submit a request to somewhere? Is there a forum or something of the sort that has the literal documents regarding the armor specifications to the KV series of tanks?

Well, from that I can't help you im sry, you either need to go The Russian State Archive of the Economy(It's an archive library in the Moscow) to ask about it. Or you could personally go to touch it yourself in one of the tank museum in Russia lol

Is this the 1939 KV-2 version, or the 1940 KV-2 version? The KV-2 we have in the Tech Tree is the 1939 version. The KV-2 Premium is the 1940 version.

5.0 BR with a much better cannon

Ah, KV-2 with the ZiS-6 Cannon. I failed to finish the whole section before replying, which is my bad.
