I have it, played more than enough games with it. In uptiers it struggles. Anyone who bought it thinking "Oh its a premium, therefore it's an "I win" button!!1111" would need to understand that only really applied to a few aircraft that were initially badly placed and stomped (namely A-10A, Su-25, Su-11, Ju-288.)
Then there is the issue with the MiG-21PFM missing a ridiculous amount of thrust in game. This also affects this plane since they're both PFMs. This has been an issue for years.
In downtiers, it does alright. Until 2 or 3 weeks ago, it used to get to see 9.3-10.3 matches almost constantly. It used to be one could get away with not carrying countermeasures until the A-10 showed up. Once all aspect showed up, carrying flares was a good idea.
I'd call it the polar opposite of the F-5C, in which its advantages are canceled out with its disadvantages.
R-60s will always struggle, as will its all aspect variant the later MiGs get. But Id say they're still good against most of what they see.
I can say in the state we had had in the last few weeks, where it starts seeing 10.7 and 11.0s more now, it strangely prepares folks for the current 11.0 experience where you face off against F-16s and MiG-29s in an uptier quite often. Most outings where the team doesn't destroy themselves I find I can easily net 1-3 kills in a match. The key is to sort of play it as the North Vietnamese used their PFMs which was to engage in hit and run attacks, and be selective in who you engaged. Don't even bother engaging in a dogfight, else an AV-8A or A-10 will magically materialize 1.25km from you and delete you with their missiles (assuming you didnt bring the SPS-141 pod with you). Also don't launch missiles at the first thing you see unless you know they get no flares or you're certain they're hyperfocused or totally off guard. I do expect with changes going on in game to armament in regard to the current balancing, it should get APU-60-2 racks for it, thus allowing it to carry 4x R-60 or possibly R-60MKs.
Once you understand what you're doing, and you're not in a hard uptier, it can do okay. But I would not expect any ace games in them. 1-2 is normal? 3 is good, and 4 means you finally got the braindead opponent.
Haven't looked at the plane before but as an AJ37 user I felt that.
Just need some decent game sense and a general idea of when to engage/not engage.
These days it follows a pretty similar playstyle to the Harriers, you fly high and pick off people who don't pay attention. Except you dogfight pretty well in the late game.
I definitely think that it verges on the level of scam, but I'm not entirely sure whether or not that is because of the insane F-5C, A-10A, SU-25K spam since they are terribly under-BRd. Honestly it suffers like the rest of the German Air tree above 7.0 to intense power-creep.
BnZ w/Missiles doesn't really matter when all of your enemies have flares but you don't. F-5Cs can flare your missiles (since they will chase farts on the ground anyways), then out-turn you and gun you down. And then can also catch up with you because they have better acceleration and similar top speed. A-10s can get cheeky kills on you with the all-aspect AIM-9Ls with similar G-pull on the missile and 4x the explosive mass of your R-60s.
Just an over-BR'd plane fighting under-BR'd planes.
It takes some learning to understand the correct playstyle and adhere to it.
But I'd be lying if I said the MiG is as good as it was a year ago in the matchmaker.
