Guidance regarding setting up HOTAS
Hello everyone

i needs some guidance please. I have a HOTAS with me which i would like to setup for warthunder air battles (realistic battles and later sim battles). I have setup most of the things but need some help with setting up the following things please.

My throttle is T16000m and stick is the vkb gladiator.
Plus i am using trackir

1. Throttle up and down - Right now the axis either take it to 100% or 0. there is no in between. so can anyone tell me what is the title of to setup throttle slider.

2. Selecting different missiles - What is the title for selecting / cycling between different missiles that you carry (fox1, fox 2, fox 3 type missiles)

3. Do we get to slew the radar cursor for the high tier jets (i am grinding the US line and would like to get the 16 and 14 unlocked). so what is the radar cursor movement called? and is there a target lock and unlock button??

your help will be appriciated

first: movement > throttle axis > relative control off > set the axis max and min values.

second: weaponry > switch primary/ switch secondary weapons

third: scroll down from switch primary and secondary weapons you will see the counter measures options just below that yaw and pitch for aimed weapons then laser designator. all the radar options you ask for are located here.

if you dont see some options displaying set the controls at the top to full real controls and then look at the list again.

Ok

1. Did it and got the throttle slider linked with throttle up and down. But now the keyboard setup keys don't work 😅 like I had 'w' for maximum value up and 's' for value down. Now the throttle value either goes straight to wep/110% or just a stuck number. It's working via slider fine but now via keyboard input anymore.

2. Got it. Do they cycle between let's say aamram and sidewinders via that?
I only have the F100 unlocked now so I cannot test switching between the missile types

3. Yup found them. Have set them up but won't be able to test till I get an aircraft with radar

you can try and enable relative control to see if that will allow w and s to function like normal if you prefer the keyboard throttle input (otherwise if you didnt make it too far into setting keybinds you can always revert back to previous settings, i am constantly adjusting things between matches if i feel it will work better a different way).

weapon select primary and secondary will cycle through all weapons equipped on the plane (you can test controls in test flight using a premium plane and should have access to everything including radar).

Will do that .

Do you think it's better to play using HOTAS in realistic air battles ? Or is one better off with mouse aim?

I always run my hotas on full real controls and a key you want to bind if you choose the same is aircraft SAS mode you can find it up top of the controls page.

I used to fly mouse in RB, it's quite good for the fighting. But I got so used to flying sim on full real controls I ended up staying with that control set for RB. Try it and see what fits best for you. Sim settings allow some interesting moves you cannot easily do with a mouse and keyboard.

Thanks

I did setup most keys and played one sim air battle. It's interesting and different for sure due to no markers and trying to IFF before engaging someone

can be frustrating to learn at times, keep an eye on the costs from dying they do add up quick if you aren't completing tasks. keep at it though and once you get even basic radar IFF will get easier.
