Of course, this factor could have contributed to the destruction of efficiency, but not to such a significant extent. In addition, I often follow the enemies and they don't even use any maneuver, they fly directly to the rocket and the rocket simply doesn't hit them, we don't know why. This drop in efficiency is simply insane. I also use them later in the game and their effectiveness is just as low. And I'll just point out that I have flown a lot with the F-14, possibly for answers to the skill issue tip. I launch rockets at a distance of less than 33 km, at a height and speed of 1300-1500 km/h, so the reaction time is really low, but very often the rockets do not hit clear targets.
It's better to fire AIM-54 from >4000m altitude to ensure TWS guidance and retain missile energy. You get about 40km effective range on low fliers and it get's better against high altitude opponents.
In late-game it becomes more ideal missile for shooting down enemy aircrafts taking off the runway as they are in slow state to outrun it.
Also heard the A variant requires TWS guidance until in range to become active. While C variant is capable of activating internal radar when TWS guidance is lost prematurely.
You should check the sensory filter on the replay to check what your missile sees and does.
