There is also the PVE Bomber Hunt Mode.
ok forgive me the snark :) but it was the most efficient way of giving the pointers you just asked for.
that's pretty much it. Air Battles is all about the ability to keep vaguely track of a dozen or more planes at once, aka Situational Awareness. The Interceptor can do a lot of damage against Ground Targets, can tear apart any other plane in the air, usually have good top speeds and can get away in a straight line if they have some energy advantage. But it's quite difficult to find those spaces in the match where you can put it to work. I have awful K/D ratios with Interceptors, I don't think I have a positive ratio until the later P-38's. But this is how you learn.
Dear Tandy...
Let me address your "pointers".
1) "They are poor at ground attacks" I tried Ta 154 A-1. Yes, they are poor in comparison to Me 410, which flies much better. The choice is between flying high and flying low. Flying high gets you killed by a fighter which outmanoeuvres you 10/10. Ta 154 just doesn't turn very well...Flying low - I usually manage to destroy 4-5 artillery sites before the fighter gets me.
2) "They suck against fighters". Yes they do. No amount of "situational awareness" helps if your plane performance (apart from speed) is inferior. And when you are flying low - max. speed won't help, since a diving fighter will always catch you.
In short: strike planes do the ground attacks much better than interceptors, which are no match for fighters. So - the only task they are really good (hunting bombers) doesn't have (?) a game mode where the interceptor can do what it is suited for best.
That's all.
they would be usefull to catch bombers or 'shoot and run'... but every russian plane is faster than any interceptor because of russian bias so they will just screw you. Shoot and run is a good tactic, but urss bias destroys it so interceptors have no sense unless all russian planes are on your team.
I don't know which intercptors you have but probably you can't go into circle fights because of the lack of maneuverability. Play smart don't try to finish every aircraft you've encountered. Keep you speed don't lose it with maneuvers. That's all that comes to my mind right now.
