Whats the point of the Heat round?
I am a very good tanker by just using the normal shells, but when I hear people say that the heat round is op that makes no sense. For ex: the minimum pen for a tiger 2's gun is 188mm at 1000m, but when I look at the Heat round it says only 103m for all distances, that is garbage, and yet people say it is op? Please help me to understand!

Its op for range I think I mean you cant just say its bad for the tiger ... for the most tanks the penetration goes downhill on 1000 m so the HEAT shells are good for sniping ...

HEAT shells do a lot of damage at long range but they have horrible ballistics so they're pretty useless for long range use anyway.

The only tank I use HEAT on is the Pz III C down at tier 1 where its HEAT round has 80mm of penetrative ability (Basically negating any other tank at that tier's armour). Other than that I never use HEAT.

^This. On paper HEAT is good at range but it's super slow, it loses a lot of accuracy at range, good luck hitting a moving target. Add to that that it sucks against any kind of spacing, tracks, roadwheels, spare track links welded to the armor, and so on and so on. I never use them. If I need the extra pen at range I'm gonna switch to conventional AP (the non-HE type) if available. Anyway in WT you rarely engage at such extreme ranges most of the time.

Hmm, interesting. Now here is another one, what on earth is high explosives for anyways? at max 16mm of pen? really? All I can see for them is a smoke screen.

mostly to kill arty and stactic defences.
also known to be ok at killing mobile AA and open box mobile guns.

Some tanks like the Su-122 fire such a large HE round that the shock wave created by the shell itself is enough to knock out crews. This does not always work so generally I tend not to use tanks like that.

Stick to APHE or APHEBC for killing tanks, choose one with an explosive charge and the most penetrative ability.

Basically against sloped armor, APCBC shells and such can "bounce" off the armor, doing no damage. HEAT simply dosent care (assuming no spaced, extra tracks whatnot) and goes through regardless - especially some of the silly 100mm pen HEAT on the German Panzers

It's good for low tier tanks with short barrels (AKA all the early Germans)

Yeah, basically; any gun at Tier 3 or lower with a calibre over 100mm can pack enough explosive filler into an HE round that it can seriously damage a lot of the tanks it'd be facing. The KV-2 is a prime example with its 152mm howitzer; I've seen it use HE rounds to one-shot a lot of tanks. At higher tiers, like for the Tiger II mentioned in the OP, this doesn't work as well due to better armour.

I read somewhere that HE is useful for tracking someone but I can't remember if that was this, WoT or something else entirely.

HE is the best round to track with, Very effective. Also good at damaging barrels.

Would a 152mm be powerful enough to one shot all of the strongest tanks used in the war with HE? Some say the armor would protect while others say it would chew through it.

No. I play alot of KV-2 and SU-122 and let me tell you when you are against 5.7 HE does nothing but track yet HEAT and AC generally 1 hit.

Both AP and HE are good.

IMO, HE works better on high tier battle.

Don't shoot HE on the hull. (works only on turreted tanks). Shoot it anywhere on the turret that the explosion will hit the top side of the hull armor. (top hull armors are usually between 30-50mm, which is weak against 152mm HE)

I've never been put against 3.7 as 4.7 tanks, only ever 5.7. Not 5.3, 5.7.

AC 1 shots - with no effort - and so does HEAT.

HEAT suppose to be a very good anti-tank shells but for some reason all of them have the lowest penetration power compare to other shells which make it quite useless. Early 75mm German HEAT shells could pen up to ~122mm but it is caped at 80mm in the game. I use HEAT time to time for the heck of it but I use normal AP and APCR most of the time.
HCGxKaLiBeR 1 ENE 2015 a las 23:01
HEAT round is slower than HE or AP. So its not good fighting in long range.
For some reason, it is impossible to one hit kill. It is worse than the standard AP or APCR shell.

Also, smaller the caliber, weaker the penetration. So, pretty much HEAT round is usless except the 152mm HEAT from the ISU-152 (250mm pen)

IMO, HEAT just a place holder for higher tier ammo. Exp sink for players I guess.
