M4 or M4A1?

I liked the M4 better, they're pretty much the exact same tanks but the M4 looks a lot better. Good armor and a good gun.

Just get both. There's not that much of a difference between them, their BR is nearly the same, and they're more powerful than the light tanks, and more powerful and better to handle than the M3 Lee.

M4 is 3.7 and M4A1 is lower. I would like to know why, the M4A1 is not a early version from the M4?

They are the same, but different design.

M4A1 has a 3.3 and the M4 has a 3.7 if I remember correctly. They perform almost exactly the same and have the same gun. This way you can use both with worrying about one being useless. Just use both to get through the T2 tanks and begining of T3 until you have more tanks and enough SL to buy a better line up.

Think it's down to armour properties. That and the M4 has some spaced armour.

the m4 has a few spots where theres extra armor welded on. over the mg and drivers port in the front, over the ammo racks on the sides, and on the front of the turret.

i just have both and use both cause there so simmilar

Take out the German Panzer IV F2 or higher and then just laugh at Shermans as you take them out at range. Neither of the first two normal Shermans are too difficult to take out. I've done it in mine and been killed in my own Shermans by the F2 to the point I avoid their line of sight whenever possible.

I have a very good crew on the M4 it is the best because of the extra armour, what makes the M4A1 better is the 50.cal it has mounted on the top which is good for pesky light tanks and planes

That's really just a myth that gets repeated over and over, because people only ever look at Tiger, Panther and King Tiger, but ignore the numbers.

The majority of the German tank forces were Panzer IIIs and IVs and their derivatives, and against those, the Sherman was on par or even better than them, depending on which versions and point in time you look at. For instance, when it first entered service in Africa, there were hardly any Panzer IV F2s and no Tigers around, so the Sherman, at that place and time, was actually the best tank on the field as a whole.

It's also worth pointing out that it was much cheaper to produce and maintain in large numbers, and it also had a lot more upgrade potential than, say, a Panzer IV.
